Heidelberg launches new General Studies major

TIFFIN — Heidelberg University has introduced a new General Studies major to provide a flexible pathway to graduation. The program is designed for students who are close to earning a bachelor's degree, but require an adaptable academic plan, according to Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Courtney DeMayo Pugno. "Finishing a degree is possible," Pugno said. "At Heidelberg, the process has been simplified to support students in achieving their academic goals." The General Studies major utilizes previously earned credits, allowing students to combine courses from different academic disciplines to fulfill degree requirements. "Coursework can be tailored to align with individual interests and career aspirations," Pugno said. "This is a clear and efficient pathway to a diploma." Program requirements include the completion of at least 30 credit hours, with specific coursework distributed as follows: A minimum of 6 credit hours at the 200 level At least 15 credit hours at the 300/400 level A minimum of 6 additional credit hours of elective courses A capstone course (3 credit hours) is also required, which may be completed through an existing designated capstone course, an on-campus practicum experience or an internship in any discipline.
