Heidelberg student provides free feminine products on campus

TIFFIN — Aylissa Lawrence, Tiffin native and senior education major at Heidelberg University, has been working on a passion project to supply women's restrooms on campus with feminine hygiene products. The initiative originally began as an in-class project during the 2022-23 school year, and has since grown into a campus-wide effort to support students in need. Though initially Lawrence was uncertain about the focus of her project, she knew she wanted to create something with a lasting positive impact. Ultimately, she decided that ensuring free access to feminine hygiene products in Heidelberg's campus bathrooms would be the best way to support her peers. Working with classmates Abby Nagy and Aubrey Michaels, Lawrence successfully stocked a cart full of hygiene products in one of the main women's restrooms in the Education Building. Lawrence was even able to secure a small grant to fund the project, and now has plans in-motion to expand to seven more bathrooms across campus. "I'm so proud of my girls (Abby and Aubrey) and so thankful for the time and effort they have put into this," Lawrence said. "I know a lot of girls coming to college for the first time are intimidated by it all. I'm so happy that I can help them feel clean, safe, and welcomed." While Lawrence aims to expand to seven more bathrooms before the end of the school year, she and her team welcome assistance from the community to ensure the initiative continues.
