Tiffin University professor to co-moderate economic growth panel TIFFIN — Bonnie Tiell, Professor of Sports Management at Tiffin University, will serve as a co-moderator for an upcoming panel discussion on innovation and economic growth, hosted via Zoom by the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce. The event will be held via Zoom and is free and open to the public to join, taking place from 12:15-1:15 p.m. April 1. Experts from the Olympic Movement, city government and the private space industry will address the pivotal role of innovation in driving efficiencies and fostering economic growth, whether within a small business or across an entire industry. Tiell will co-moderate the discussion alongside Margriet De Schutter, a sports journalist and former ice-skating competitor for the Netherlands. Panelists include Rob Stull, three-time Olympian and President of Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne; Erik Lindbergh, co-founder and executive chairman of VerdeGo Aero and grandson of Charles Lindbergh, the pioneering aviator who completed the first solo non-stop flight from New York to Paris in 1927; and Councilman Liston Bochette, a five-time Olympian, internationally recognized artist and civic leader for the City of Fort Myers. The webinar is a prelude to the Edison Awards in Fort Myers, Florida recognizing top innovators and innovative companies throughout the world. 'Wild' fun with HU's Excelsior Men's Society TIFFIN — The Excelsior Men's Society, a men's fraternity at Heidelberg University, is set to host its annual Animal Jam fundraiser on from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 6. The event seeks to bring families together for a fun-filled afternoon while raising awareness for wildlife rehabilitation. The event will take place inside Seiberling Gymnasium, with this year's Animal Jam featuring several live animal encounters, courtesy of the Columbus Zoo and Back to the Wild. Attendees will have the opportunity to assist with various tasks, such as cleaning animal enclosures and helping feed and water the animals. In addition to the wildlife experience, attendees can enjoy face painting, bouncy houses, a coloring contest, a raffle, and concessions. The event offers entertainment for all ages, creating a fun and engaging way to educate the community about protecting wildlife. A key beneficiary of Animal Jam is Back to the Wild, a non-profit organization in Castalia, Ohio, dedicated to rehabilitating injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife. Each year, the organization cares for around 2,000 animals and educates approximately 50,000 people on conservation efforts. The Excelsior Men's Society invites the community to be a part of this exciting event and make a difference for local wildlife. Whether attending, volunteering, or contributing through donations, every effort helps support wildlife rehabilitations and conservation efforts. Chocolate Walk returns to Tiffin TIFFIN — The Chocolate Walk in Downtown Tiffin will return April 12. A recent release from Destination Seneca County says the event has historically been one of the most well attended events. For $20, guests can visit several downtown businesses to receive a chocolate treat and other items. Participating businesses include Bailiwicks Coffee Company, The Empire, Pan Yan Bookstore, JAM's Markets, SOUL Boutique, Spoke Life Cycles and Washington Street Outfitters. Tickets can be purchased at Simply Susan's or Washington Street Outfitters in Tiffin or online through Eventbrite. Susan Wilkinson, owner of Simply Susan's, said in the release that she is excited for the upcoming Chocolate Walk. "Downtown businesses work hard to create unique experiences for the community and we are grateful for the ongoing support as we rely on it to succeed," Wilkinson said. Fostoria High Class of '71 hosting monthly lunch FOSTORIA — The Fostoria High School Class of 1971 has scheduled its monthly lunch for 11:30 a.m., Wednesday at R Place, 324 S. Fountain Cemetery clean-up scheduledFOSTORIA — Spring and summer clean-up at Fountain Cemetery in Fostoria is scheduled for April 14, weather permitting.Lot owners are asked to remove all fall/winter decorations prior to April 14. Cemetery employees will dispose of remaining items other than those directly on the stones.Lot owners are also asked to wait until April 18 before placing new decorations on their lots. American Legion Auxiliary Victory Unit #260 meeting notes The American Legion Auxiliary consists of a community of volunteers serving Veterans, Military and their families. Victory Unit #260 of the American Legion Auxiliary met on both February 18 and March 18 at the Legion Hall to discuss a variety of important updates. Firstly, new information was provided regarding bulk mailings from the Department (State ALA Office) stating that monthly bulk mailings are eliminated. The information is now being sent by e-mail. Recent mailings were printed and were available at the meetings. The mailings will continue to be printed and made available at the monthly meetings. Yearly reports are due April 1 to Victory Unit #260 chairpersons. All yearly reports are due to the department by April 15. Contact President Lucius if you do not know who to send your report information to. Additionally, a donation in memory of long-time Legion member, Jim Kuhn, will be sent to the Legion. In other news, three Seneca East Students will be attending Buckeye Girls State-Unit 260 will be donating money toward the purchase of snacks for the students. On April 12, the Sons of the Legion will be holding their monthly Steak and Chicken Feed. Help will be needed! There is a possibility that residents from Ohio Veterans Home (OVH) may attend.
