Carey hires new police sergeant

CAREY — Sergeant Josh Alexander was hired to fill an opening at the Carey police department during Monday's village council meeting. According to a release from the Carey police, Alexander has 20 years of experience and has previously served as supervisor of child support enforcement in Marion County, at the Marion police department, on the Ohio State University - Marion campus and the Ohio Casino Control Commission. He was previously a Sergeant with the Ohio Army National Guard, serving in Iraq until 2015. In other news, Carey Mayor Chad Kin issued a proclamation for National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, thanking dispatchers for their hard work, often under stressful conditions. Village administrator Mike Roszman informed the council of several projects in the village, including the closing of Findlay Street between Vance and Patterson streets for repairs and the continuation of the all-inclusive playground equipment installation. Also at the meeting council passed a resolution recording miscellaneous receipt of funds of $14,807.91 into the village's general fund to true up the general fund balance. This resolution was passed as an emergency. Village fiscal officer Natasha Hatfield said new software had been purchased in 2019 and financial records were input into the software wrong. She also assured council no money had gone missing, but the receipt of funds would balance village's financial records. Council also heard the second readings of ordinances increasing the purchase of burial lots, increasing grave opening charges and increasing foundation and marker costs. The next Carey council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 5 at the Carey fire department.
