Over 30 neglected animals come to Humane Society

TIFFIN — The Seneca County Humane Society is seeking monetary donations, supplies, volunteer support and increased community awareness following the rescue of more than 30 neglected animals in three separate incidents. A representative from the organization said two of the cases are under active criminal investigation. The majority of animals brought in were found in terrible condition, many requiring immediate veterinary attention, the organization posted on social media. Staff and volunteers are now working to treat abscesses, skin and eye infections and cases of severe malnutrition. Several of the rescued animals were also pregnant or nursing, requiring specialized and ongoing care. "This is one of the most challenging situations we've faced," the shelter said in a post Sunday. "We're already operating at full capacity, and the recovery process for many of these animals will be lengthy and difficult." Despite the strain on resources, the organization said it remains committed to providing a second chance to every animal brought into its care. Shelter officials urged the public to consider donating funds or supplies, signing up to volunteer, or simply spreading the word. Since the original social media post, the Humane Society has reported an outpouring of support from the community. Donations and supplies have been coming in rapidly, helping the shelter begin to meet the needs of the rescued animals. The Humane Society said it intends to press charges on the animals' owners, and noted that in similar past cases, individuals have faced charges of both neglect and animal abuse. "We are deeply grateful for the community's unwavering support," the post states. "Your help makes it possible for these animals to heal, and we can't thank you enough."
