Gala marks new chapter in fight against homelessness

TIFFIN — A theme of transformation and collaboration recently took center stage at Tiffin University for the Seneca County Council on Homelessness' (SCCoH) annual Wings of Transformation Gala. The event marked more than a night of reflection and recognition, but as the official announcement of a new partnership between SCCoH and New Housing Ohio. At the event, members of the organization were excited to share that beginning June 1, SCCoH will take over transitional housing programming at The Morrison House through the collaboration. "We know that real, lasting change doesn't happen in isolation," said Dr. Ronee Rice, board president of the Seneca County Council on Homelessness. "This partnership with New Housing Ohio allows us to expand our reach, deepen our services, and create even stronger pathways to stability for individuals and families experiencing homelessness." According to Dr. Rice, the collaboration was first set in motion through guidance from Challie Briihl, former executive director of the Transformation Life Center and current regional director of New Housing Ohio. "I am honored to witness this partnership come to life," Briihl said in a release. She continued, saying the transition of services represents more than just a shift in operations and that "it reflects SCCoH's shared commitment to walking alongside individuals and families as they work toward stability, healing and hope." Community members, leaders, and advocates gathered for the gala, which featured keynote speaker Kathryn Bausman, executive director of City Mission in Findlay. She spoke on the ongoing challenges of addressing homelessness while emphasizing the power and importance of local community partnerships. Per a release from Dr. Rice, the idea behind the event's theme – Wings of Transformation - was to remind attendees that recovery and progress are possible when communities come together with purpose. The organization also recognized musician Joel Starkey, whose live performance helped create what members of the council described as a "warm and uplifting atmosphere."
