Haven Herbs finds new roots in Seneca County

TIFFIN — When herbalist Lily Kunning decided to relocate with her son and two dogs, she was looking for a town with a sense of community—and found it in Tiffin. Kunning is excited to bring her business, Haven Herbs, to town and will be kicking things off with a spot at the Tiffin-Seneca Farmers Market. "We're thrilled to join the Tiffin community and bring our love of plant medicine to a new region," Kunning said. "It's been nothing but a pleasure so far—this town has such a welcoming vibe." Haven Herbs is an herbal apothecary that makes small-batch remedies and body care products using food-grade ingredients and zero plastic packaging. She shared that it's built on a foundation of sustainable sourcing, ecological accountability, and what Kunning calls "right livelihood," and her approach to wellness is as rooted in community as it is in plants. "Haven Herbs isn't just a business, it's a practice," Kunning said. "We call ourselves 'The People's Apothecary' because we're here for everyday people." She has been working as a professional herbalist since 2008. She started Haven Herbs after experiencing firsthand how plant medicine helped when nothing else did. Since then, she has dedicated her career to helping others in the same way, whether it is formulating remedies, teaching classes, or just empowering people to take charge of their own health. When asked what she enjoys most about her career field, Kunning shared, "I love being outside with the plants. That's always been my favorite part of the work." Haven Herbs is a farm-to-bottle business, so Kunning is excited to start building relationships with farms in the area, aligning with her goal to source ingredients locally. On top of her apothecary work, Kunning teaches monthly wellness classes for Cancer Support Community Central Ohio (CSCCO) and offers affordable public webinars, which can be found on her website. She also recently launched a podcast, Ask the Herbalist, where she answers common questions about herbalism and holistic health, an offshoot of her growing online community on Reddit. As she gets settled in, Kunning is excited to find even more ways to connect. "I'm still learning about all the local events and opportunities here," she said. "I'd love to table at fairs and do more face-to-face chatting. if folks know of something we'd be a good fit for, I hope they'll reach out!"
