Conference races coming down to final weeks

Hard to know exactly how long we have until the end of the softball/baseball regular season with all of the cancellations because of the glorious Ohio spring weather, but with softball tournament draws last weekend and baseball's coming up this Sunday, lets take a look at each conference race.Starting off with softball in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference. SoftballUp until last week, it seemed like Mohawk might not lose … any game all season. But after a tough stretch last week, losing three times (certainly not to cupcakes), the N10 race has heated up just a bit. The Warriors did respond with a big 3-1 win at Wynford Monday to re-gain the outright lead in the league. However, the Warriors (14-3, 8-1 N10) still have to play the Royals (9-7, 7-2) again (tonight) and Upper Sandusky twice (14-4, 6-2) before anything is decided in the league. Elsewhere in the N10, it certainly was a great start to the season for Seneca East (6-8, 5-5). The Tigers have come up against some good competition in the league recently, but considering that program won 10 total games over the past three seasons, Steve Coppes and his staff have done a good job this season.Switching over to the SBC River, New Riegel (14-2, 11-0) has had a stranglehold on the race from the beginning this season. Even though Calvert (17-2, 11-2) and Gibsonburg (11-6, 11-2) are right there, the Blue Jackets have remained unbeaten to this point. Tonight, the Blue Jackets head to Calvert for a big showdown and then they still have to go to Gibsonburg yet.So with a two-game lead with seven games left to go, anything can happen.In the SBC Lake, nobody has played better and more consistently than Clyde. The Fliers have hit the cover off the softball in almost every game this season and currently are still unbeaten in the league as they have already secured at least a share of the title. They can win it outright tonight, hosting Columbian (8-10, 4-2). Speaking of Columbian, what a turnaround for the Tornadoes. Considering Ryan Ottney took over the program a week before the season started and after an 0-6 start to the season, the Tornadoes have won eight games and are above .500 in the league. A Tremendous turnaround.BaseballNow lets get into the baseball league races to this point. The N10 is tight as Upper Sandusky (11-3, 9-2) and Mohawk (13-3, 7-2) are tied at the top, but Wynford (8-5, 6-3) and Carey (10-6, 6-4) aren't too far off.The Warriors and Rams split their season series last week. Mohawk has two games against Wynford and Seneca East left, before finishing the season against Buckeye Central. Of the two teams' schedules remaining, Mohawk's is tougher.In the SBC River, Calvert has taken over the race. The Senecas (14-3, 12-1) have been the hottest team in the area the past few weeks, winning 11 of their last 12 games after a tough loss at Lakota. The Senecas have a two-game lead over Hopewell-Loudon, who they've beaten twice already.Technically, it's not over as Calvert has five league games left, but the Senecas are certainly closing in on another SBC River title.The SBC Lake is also a tight race that could come down to the final week of the season. As of now, Norwalk (11-3, 6-1) is in the lead, but still have games against Perkins (12-5, 6-2) and Bellevue left (9-5, 5-2).
