First ever adult craft camp in Tiffin

TIFFIN – Rustic Flair and Brush has a new event that will start this summer. The Midwest Creative Escape is a two-day event that allows adults the opportunity to explore new skills, connect with peers and enjoy crafting experiences. The event was founded by Rustic Flair and Brush owner Jennifer Burns. She developed the escape to provide adults with a space to create, bond and recharge. It will feature more than 20 DIY and instructional chances which will feature painting, crocheting, photography woodworking, culinary arts and more. "I love hosting creative events in my studio and seeing the joy they bring to people," said Burns. "This retreat is designed as a summer camp experience for adults—why should kids get to have all the fun? It's a chance for friends to come together, relax and reconnect, whether it's old friendships or new ones." Burns developed the Midwest Creative Escape after noticing a lack of similar events in the area. Drawing inspiration from the workshops offered at her studio, she envisioned a multi-session, multi-day experience tailored to adults looking for a getaway where they could unwind, try new crafts and enjoy a supportive creative atmosphere. Heidelberg University was chosen as the venue due to its welcoming campus and ability to provide on-site lodging, meal options, and ample space for workshops. Burns, who previously ran a high school journalism camp at Heidelberg, felt it was a natural fit for this creative retreat. "I love that Heidelberg offers everything needed—from housing to meeting areas—plus an evening happy hour," she said. "It's also a great way for participants to experience the campus; perhaps some will return in the future with children considering college." The event will include six workshop sessions over two days, with attendees choosing classes that align with their interests. Among the options are paint pouring, photography, Canva design, sourdough-making, woodworking, knitting, travel tips, and even yoga/barre classes. Because multiple sessions occur simultaneously, Burns has enlisted expert instructors from the community to share their skills with participants. While this marks the first Midwest Creative Escape, Burns hopes it will become an annual tradition. "If this event is successful, I'd love to expand it with even more classes and instructors in the future," she said. The retreat is open to participants of all experience levels, from beginners to seasoned creatives. Ticket prices range from $105 for a single day to $299 for the full two-day experience with on-campus lodging. VIP options are also available. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register early, as spots are limited. Participants will be able to select their preferred classes in late June.
