13-run 1st inning propels Senecas to SBC title

FREMONT – Calvert needed a win Saturday at Fremont St. Joe to claim at least a share of the SBC River championship. A 13-run inning got the point across that the Senecas were ready to be champions. In the end, Calvert produced 17 hits in a 21-4 win. Calvert (17-3, 15-1 SBC River) has league games with Old Fort and St. Joe this week to wrap up the league slate. A win over Old Fort today will hand the Senecas the title outright.Blake Coleman (2 RBI), Vincenzo Lyons (2 RBI), AJ Shoemaker (2B, 3 RBI), Connor Moyer (2B, 3 RBI), Cameron Moyer (HR, 3 RBI) all had two hits for Calvert, while Landon King, Gabe Badik, Shoemaker, Branyan Coleman, Braxton Shoemaker and Bryce Moser all singled and drove in a run. Cameron Moyer got the win on the bump, giving up an unearned run on no hits in two innings with four punchouts. Crestview slips past TigersATTICA — Ashland Crestview turned four of the nine walks it drew into runs Saturday en route to outlasting Seneca East 6-5.The Cougars went up 1-0 in the top of the first and, after Seneca East scored three times in the second, added three runs in the third for a 4-3 edge. Both teams scored twice in the sixth.Kayn Patton and Tyson Ringler both doubled and singled for Crestview (9-12). Drew Dennings was solid on the hill for the Redmen (12-5), going six hit-less innings for the win. At the plate, Ike Brown singled and drove in a run, while Tyson Baptista, Caden Lindsey, Sam Doster and Grant Musser all singled. Doster added an RBI. Tigers shut out Fliers 8-0CLYDE – Galion scored in five of the seven innings it batted Saturday in an 8-0 victory at Clyde. Clyde (6-14) was held to just five hits as Brayden Olson, Gavyn Boggs, Alex Young, Brown and Josh Swartz all singled.Boggs took the loss, giving up seven runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. Warriors blank TornadoesONTARIO – Columbian couldn't get any offense going Saturday in a 10-0 loss at Ontario.After two scoreless innings, then the Ontario offense started getting to work. TC (5-11) had just four hits as Isaiah Tilse doubled and Jayce Arias, Blake Gaulden and Kael Lawrence all singled.Jaxon Little suffered the loss on the hill, giving up three runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings. He fanned four and walked two on 76 pitches. Warriors, Minster split state-ranked twinbillMINSTER — Both won a tight game Saturday, with Mohawk and Minster splitting a doubleheader between state-ranked teams.Minster, ranked fifth in Division VI, took the opener 2-1 while Mohawk, ranked fourth in Division VII, triumphed 9-7 in the nightcap.Mohawk had its chances for the sweep.Aubrey Gottfried fanned 12 and allowed just four hits and a walk in the opener, but Mohawk committed three errors and Gottfried hit three batters.Addi Inskeep belted a solo homer, Rylin Trego singled in a Whitney Trego, and Reece Albers and Lauren Tyler each singled to lead Minster to its win.Booklyn Osterloh went the distance in the circle to get the victory.Gottfried took the loss, but doubled in Mallory Brickner for Mohawk's lone run.Mallory Brickner, Emily Brickner and Anna Russell each singled.Mohawk committed another three errors in the second game, but the Warriors countered with plenty of offense.The Warriors looked to have control early, scoring three times in the top of the first and adding a run in the second for a 4-0 lead.Minster countered with five runs in the third and another run in the fifth for a 6-4 advantage.Both teams scored once in the sixth before Mohawk pounded out four runs in the top of the seventh and held Minster scoreless in the bottom of the frame to get reliever Emily Brickner the win.Katie Woodland went 4 for 4 with a triple, double, two runs and an RBI for Mohawk (17-5).Gottfried and Emily Brickner each ended 2 for 3. Gottfried drove in three runs and scored and Brickner scored twice.Trenna Johnson scored twice and double, Mallory Brickner scored twice and singled, Russell had a single and RBI and Averie Barth chased in a run.Inskeep keyed Minster (15-5) by going 3 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs.Brooklyn Osterloh added a 3-for-4 effort with a double, run and RBI.Tyler, Whitney Trego and Caroline Knapke each doubled. Tyler scored twice, Trego had a run and RBI and Knapke drove in a run.Albers singled and scored, Brianna Osterloh singled, Rylin Trego drove in a run and Ansley Wolf scored.Brianna Osterloh took the loss.
