Tiffin Rotary President Mimi Johnston opened the May 6th meeting at the Chandelier Event Center. Rev. Charlene Thomas offered the opening prayer. Joe Weaver, from a Florida club, was a Visiting Rotarian. Our attendance today was 26. Basket Fund raised $53. Beth Schweitzer won the Weekly Drawing and Joe Weaver won the Free Lunch. Charlene announced that the Centennial Clock has arrived at Burns Electric. We are still fundraising for it and will be grateful for all gifts both large and small. At the present time, we still have a balance of around $20,000. Mimi reported that Marisa is working and a "Brag Sheet" for Tiffin Rotary. Beth Schweitzer said that the Foundation Board will meet next week at 8 am at PT Services. Our speaker today was Jason Miller, Heidelberg Volleyball Coach and owner/operator of Black Swamp Volleyball LLC. Jason has been Heidelberg's coach for 25 years and has had two OAC tournament champions and five OAC Season Champions. He purchased Black Swamp in 2016 from Hopewell Loudon VB coach Dave Reinhart. Dave told Jason that it would be cheaper for him to buy Black Swamp than pay for lessons, court time and season memberships for his four daughters! Black Swamp is a 501(3) and is affiliated with AAU, USAV and JVA. Annually, they have about 300 kids ages 5-18, making up 20-30 teams. They host camps, clinics, lessons and they host many tournaments. Black Swamp teams have had three National Titles and three Runner-ups. Jason believes he has had about 200+ kids go from Black Swamp into college-level volleyball. He believes Black Swamp has been good for the community because parents shop here while waiting for the twice-weekly practices to be over. During tournaments, they shop and eat here and often stay overnight here. Black Swamp draws kids from as far away as Toledo, Marysville and Huron. Kelly Hohman noted that Black Swamp made her daughter a successful volleyball player and helped her get a volleyball scholarship. In attendance were honored guests,5th district president Nancy Longbrake and Linda Driscoll, chaplain, and seven members of the auxiliary. Prayer was led by Chaplain Denise Mullennex and the pledge and preamble were led by President Boehler. April's secretary's report was read by Secretary Lisa O'Millian and approved. Treasurer Karen Kotnik gave the treasurer's report and it stood approved as read. In communications, an email was received from Bonnie Lucero, U.S.N., thanking everyone for her goodie box. A thank you from the Michelli families for the flowers, memorial and dinner was read. An invitation to the Transformational fundraising dinner was read. Motion was made by Sandy Schleter to send a check to the Past Presidents Parley in memory of Helen Michelli, seconded by Denise, and passed. A phone call meeting on May 5 from Barbara Trapp requesting a motion to buy a wedding gift card for members Chris Brown and Rick Robbins, who recently got married. The motion passed to get a gift card. Received a phone call from Kelly Van Camp thanking us for her holiday gift sacks. Karen Kotnik reported that the poppies are here and will be distributed this week. MaryAnn will be attending a summer meeting of the post once she gets a veteran count from local nursing homes. Barbara Trapp bought Easter buckets and stuffed animals for the Easter 2026 party. A motion to pay was made by Barbara and seconded by Sandy Schleter. Motion passed. We will be meeting on June 30 to accommodate MaryAnn's trip to Austria. At the meeting, we will put together veterans' July 4th goodie bags for nursing homes. In the bags will go oranges, puzzle books, fans, wafers, flag pins and drink packets. A motion was made by Barbara Trapp to send a $200 check for bingo prizes to the Ohio Veterans Home. Secondrf by Chris Brown, passed. The check was given to Nancy Longbrake. Event coordinator, Denise Mullennex, wishes to have a summer corn hole event. She will keep us informed on progress. President Laurel Lilly called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., reviewed the agenda and led the reading of the Toastmasters Mission. She continued as Toastmaster for the evening and introduced Donna Teague to provide the opening. Wordmaster Jim Black presented the word, "confabulate" meaning to engage in conversation and talk. He continued as Tabletopicmaster by asking the following questions of the members: Jessica Lang — Give us a confabulation of the life of an animal of your choice.Donna Teague — Weather people confabulate about the weather, guessing what might happen. What are your thoughts?Laurel Lilly — Talk to us about your most recent adventure.Doug Switzer — Confabulate your plans for an upcoming trip. The first speaker for the evening was Tom Burwell, rehearsing his Memorial Day presentation to be given at the Omar Chapel entitled, "Remembrance is the Highest Honor". He was followed by Doug Switzer with a hip-pocket speech entitled, "Why I am Here. General Evaluator Suzanne Black gave her comments on the meeting and called for a Round Robin evaluation of Burwell's speech. She continued with an evaluation of Switzer's speech. Teague presented the Ah Counter/Grammarian report and Switzer presented the Timer's report. President Lilly conducted a short business meeting. V-P Ed Teague reminded us of the National Convention that is in Philadelphia this year in August. Lilly briefly reported on the D28 business meeting on April 24 and the following D28 Conference on Apr. 25 and 26 in Detroit. It was suggested that the Conference be held in Ohio next year. Immediate Past President Suzanne Black presented the Slate of Officers for the 2025-2026 year. The new officers are: President, Doug Switzer, V-P Education, Donna Teague, V-P Membership, Laurel Lilly, V-P Public Relations, Laurel Lilly, Treasurer, Jim Black, Secretary, Suzanne Black and Sgt. at Arms, Tom Burwell.Lang provided the closing.
