Baughman's walk-off 1B keeps NR atop SBC River

NEW RIEGEL – Woodmore sent the game at New Riegel into extra innings with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh Wednesday in SBC River play. After a scoreless eighth, New Riegel struck in the bottom of the ninth as Ruthann Baughman lined a walk-off single to lift the Blue Jackets to a big 4-3 win.Maddie Heilman led the Blue Jackets (16-3, 13-1 SBC River) at the plate with three singles, while Baughman added two other singles and Lilly Schalk and Claire Schalk each singled and drove in a run.Karsyn Piper pitched all nine innings in the circle, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits. Colts oust Rams 8-2BELLVILLE – It took two days because of weather, but Clear Fork finished off Upper Sandusky 8-2 in a Division IV sectional final Wednesday. The game was delayed from Tuesday with the Colts winning 4-1. Tornadoes edge Little Giants 3-2FREMONT – In the first trip in consecutive days to Fremont Ross this week, Columbian slipped by the Little Giants 3-2 Wednesday.Doubles ended up being the key for TC (13-5) as Ross took two of the three singles matches. The lone win at singles for TC came at No. 1 singles as Zach Shawberry won as his opponent had to retire due to an injury.At No. 2, Ross' Jack Swinehart topped Jarrett Jaeck 6-1, 6-0 and No. 3 Brandon Fry beat Ryan Arnold 6-1, 6-1.The TC No. 1 doubles pair of Brock Siesel and Dravyn Dicken handled Zach Bishop and Charlie Kramer 6-3, 6-3, while the No. 2 team of Parker Nye and Parker Stroub clinched the contest with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Chase Culbertson and Logan Wensinger.
