Blue Jackets double up Gibsonburg to win SBC title

GIBSONBURG — New Riegel struck first and got the better of two solid pitching performances Saturday in a 4-2 Sandusky Bay Conference River Division win against Gibsonburg, which gave the Blue Jackets at least a share of the league title with two games to go.The Blue Jackets (19-3, 15-1 SBC) jumped out 2-0 in the top of the first, only to have Gibsonburg (14-7, 15-3) answer with a run in the bottom of the frame.The scoring slowed after that, with New Riegel getting single runs in the fourth and seventh while the Golden Bears added a run in the sixth.Both pitchers went the distance.Karsyn Piper struck out eight and scattered five hits, a walk and an earned run for New Riegel, while Gibsonburg's Alivia Wauford fanned 10 and gave up five hits, four walks and two earned runs.Ava Wensink blasted a solo homer for New Riegel and Jacqui Tiell and Ruthann Baughman both doubled. Senecas get by StreaksFREMONT – Calvert and Fremont St. Joe combined to score eight runs in the seventh inning Saturday in SBC River action, but it was the Senecas with five runs in that inning that made the difference in a 7-4 victory.Addison King led the Senecas (20-4) with a double and a single at the dish, while Addie Endicott, Alyssa Rishty, Claire Schoenberger and Addison Sheets all singled and drove in a run and Scarlett Faber drove in a pair of runs.King was the winning pitcher in her complete game in the circle. Lakota routs LakersLAKESIDE – Lakota had the bats going early and often in an 11-5 SBC River win at Danbury Saturday.Lakota (11-10) recorded 13 hits as Grant Scherger (3B, RBI) and Brady Kern (3B, 2 RBI) each tallied two hits, while Hunter Sweeney tacked on two singles and two RBIs, Izreal Smith had two singles and an RBI, Nate Stewart singled and drove in a pair of runs, Jack Widman doubled and drove in a run and Grant Bomer tripled.Bomer picked up the win on the hill, allowing three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings of work. Dicken, Siesel claim sectional titleFREMONT — Columbian's Dravyn Dicken and Brock Siesel captured the doubles title Saturday at the Division I sectional at Fremont Ross.The Tornadoes beat Zach Bishop and Charlie Kramer of Fremont Ross 6-1, 6-1 to earn the crown and the top seed in Thursday's district tournament at Port Clinton.Dicken and Siesel earned Columbian's first sectional title since 2021.
