NR's Piper tabbed POY in SBC River

While New Riegel wrapped up the SBC River title Monday night with a 15-0 win at Fremont St. Joe, sophomore pitcher Karsyn Piper Tuesday was named the player of the year in the River Division when the All-SBC softball teams were released. Piper, who broke the single-season strikeout record for New Riegel in her freshmen season, backed that up with another strong regular season as her team is playing in the district tournament this week. Currently, Piper has tossed a little more than 136 innings with 215 strikeouts and is 17-3 in the circle with a 1.74 ERA. She was joined on the first-team all-SBC River team with junior teammate Ruthann Baughman (infielder) and sophomore Jacqui Tiell (IF). Other locals on the first team included Calvert freshman Ava Eilrich (pitcher), senior Alyssa Rishty (IF), senior Addison King (IF) and senior Addie Endicott (outfielder), Old Fort sophomore Abbi Ward (catcher), Lakota junior Lexi Moon (IF), junior Chevelle Rubel (OF) and senior Elizabeth Strawman (OF) and Hopewell-Loudon sophomore Araceli Velasquez (IF) and senior Sidney Brickner (OF).The second team consisted of Lakota sophomore Sophia Bomer (P), Calvert freshman Gracie Miller (C), junior Scarlett Faber (OF) and junior Kaleigh Concepcion (OF), H-L senior Brynn Sendelbach (IF) and New Riegel senior Ashlyn Bouillon (IF). Honorable mentions included Lakota sophomore Mya Stoudinger (C) and H-L senior AnneMarie Berg (IF). Clyde's Jeffrey earns top SBC Lake awardClyde dominated the SBC Lake this season and it did have a lot to do with the pitching and all-around play of sophomore Taitum Jeffrey. Tuesday when the All-SBC softball teams were released, Jeffrey was named the player of the year in the Lake Division. She was joined on the first team by teammates senior Kennedi Long (catcher), senior Ella Howey (outfielder), junior Mya Stiefel (infielder), junior Vanessa West (IF) and freshman Ariah Farrar (outfielder). Bellevue seniors Tessa Blankenship (IF) and Payton Hicks (OF) were also first-team picks. The second team consisted of Columbian senior Laela Haman (IF), juniors Olyvia Steinmetz (IF) and Emma Daugherty (IF) and freshman Cam Haman (OF) and Bellevue freshman Mallory Hay (pitcher).Clyde freshman Ember Andres (IF), Bellevue sophomore Ryleigh Knutti (C) and Columbian sophomore Corinne Plotts (OF) were all honorable mention.
