Jones earns SBC River POY for 2nd straight season

New Riegel senior Shane Jones followed up his 2024 season where he was player of the year in the SBC River with another POY honor, this time in 2025 for the Blue Jackets when the All-SBC baseball teams were released Tuesday.The Heidelberg currently is batting .532 with eight doubles, four tripled, four home runs, 19 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. On the mound, he has a 2.18 ERA with 62 strikeouts in just a little more than 40 innings. The second team included Columbian freshman Jaxon Little (OF), Clyde senior Brayden Olson (IF) and junior Mason Flewelling (OF) and Bellevue junior Grant Musser (IF) and sophomore Blake Sutherland (P). Clyde sophomore Colt Flores was named honorable mention. Mohawk's Haynes, Calvert's Coleman grab top District 9 awardsQuite a few local players were listed on the all-District 9 teams when they were released Tuesday afternoon. Mohawk senior Hunter Haynes was named the player of the year in Division VII, while Calvert skipper Matt Coleman is the coach of the year.Haynes is batting .476 and has 23 stolen bases. On the mound, he is 4-1 with 32 innings pitched with a 1.97 ERA.Coleman led his Senecas to another SBC River championship as the D-VII No. 1 Senecas look to make another deep postseason run.Joining Haynes on the first team were teammate Kaden Bish, Calvert's Blake Coleman and Connor Moyer, Old Fort's Ryan Adelsperger.
