2 officers sworn in by Carey council

CAREY — Carey Village Council swore in two new police officers at its regular meeting Monday. Officers Dalton Yost and Erik Crawford joined the Carey Police Department, bringing the force to five patrol officers and two sergeants, Chief Jeff Conley said. Conley wrote in an email Yost was born and raised in the village, graduating from Carey High School in 2020. Crawford is from Crawford County and graduated from Wynford High School in 2020. Both attended Marion Technical College's peace officer training program and will graduate in June. "We are looking forward to these two young men serving the citizens of Carey," Conley said. Both Yost and Crawford were sworn in by Mayor Chad Kin shortly after being approved for hire by council. In other news, Councilman Vady Hernandez reported being approached by several residents over safety concerns for teenagers on motorized scooters of golf carts. "I just don't want there to be a tragedy," Hernandez told council. Conley advised he would work with his officers to help keep teenagers safe on the road. Also at the meeting, Councilman Derek Puchta said the park board was asked for more pickleball courts. After some discussion, council agreed to paint part of a basketball court at Waterworks Park temporarily, but would find a more permanent solution during the next budget cycle. Council then passed the following legislation: A resolution authorizing the execution of the remaining requirements energy supply schedule with American Municipal Power Inc. The first reading of an ordinance approving the codification, editing and inclusion of certain ordinances as parts of various component codes of the codified ordinances of Carey, OH. The first reading of an ordinance of the village of Carey to modify ordinance number 331.337 to an exception for licensed drivers for legally licensed ATV, UTV or golf carts on Blue Devil Parkway and adjust the bollards accordingly. The next Carey council meeting will be 7 p.m. June 2 at the Carey Fire Department.
