Exploring the Nature Education Center

SENECA COUNTY — Seneca Parks Executive Director Sarah Betts recently conducted a brief tour of the park district's newly constructed Robert G. Teach Nature Education Center, located at Fruth Wetland Nature Preserve in Fostoria. Soon to be home to the park district's office services, as well as an indoor facility for programs, the facility is expected to be completed in early to mid-June. The project has been primarily funded through local donations after it was determined a nature center in Seneca County was a high priority for the district to accomplish, as reported in the 2020 Multi-Jurisdictional Comprehensive Plan. The next phase of the project is to add a connector trail in front of the building, creating a distinction between the parking areas. "We're currently waiting for the next phase of the Metroparks and ODOT funds in order to implement that," said Executive Director Sarah Betts. Entering the building, guests will be greeted with the park's offices on the left and a hallway on the right with both a men's and women's restroom. Straight ahead is the main activity room, with naming rights still available to donors. "Inside the activity room, there is a kitchenette where we plan on putting in a refrigerator, as well as black tables and chairs to contrast the theme of the room, which should be here within the next four weeks," Betts said. Out back of the activity room, guests will find the outdoor education area, donated partially by the Webster Foundation. "Really, the project is mostly complete and we are almost ready to gain occupancy, there are just a few odds and ends left to tie up beforehand," Betts said. On behalf of the Seneca Park District, Betts wished to express her gratitude to all of the donors who helped to make the project a reality. Donors who contributed $250 or more are to receive recognition on a future donor wall inside the building.
