Fostoria to replace Portage Park shelter roof

FOSTORIA — Fostoria's city council accepted a donation this week for repairs at a local park. Council members met for a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, May 20 to accept a $10,000 donation from the Wood County Park District for the replacement of a shelter roof at Portage Park. "It was great to see the city of Fostoria participate in the program this year, and I would love to see you guys continue in the future," said Chris Smalley, director of the Wood County Park District. Additionally at the meeting, council proposed an ordinance to establish what is to be known as the Fostoria Mechanics Division. "We currently have a working foreman mechanic and a laborer mechanic under the supervision of Fostoria's street department supervisor. This would take our working foreman out of the union and he would become responsible for creating his own budget plans," said safety service director Madison Stearns. She continued, explaining that it is difficult because, as it stands, any department can come in to pull the laborer out. "It would definitely help the mechanics out there at the shop," Stearns said. A number of ordinances were also passed at Tuesday's meeting, with those waiving the three reading rule indicated with an asterisk (*). • Ordinance No.: 2025 - 35: Amending Section 1501.01 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Fostoria, Ohio, entitled "ADOPTION", relating to the Ohio Fire Code. (Third reading) • Ordinance No.: 2025 - 36: Declaring the Director of Law to be the designee for all members of the City Council and the Mayor, for purposes of compliance with Sections 109.43 and 149.43, and other sections, of the Ohio Revised Code, and declaring an emergency to exist. (Third reading) • *Ordinance No. 2025-37: Adopting and Amending ordinance No. 2024-105 (Permanent 2025 Appropriations) by appropriating from unappropriated funds in the CHIP 2024 Fund and CHIP 2018 Fund and declaring an emergency to exist. (First reading) • *Ordinance No. 2025-38: To authorize, direct, and empower the mayor to enter into an agreement for joint compensation between Seneca County, the city of Fostoria, and the city of Tiffin for a shared IT technician for law enforcement support and services hired by Seneca County and declaring an emergency to exist. (First reading) • *Ordinance No. 2025-39: To authorize, direct, and empower the mayor to enter into an service provider agreement with Bascom Advanced Services Inc. of Bascom, OH for the providing of IT services to the city of Fostoria and declaring an emergency to exist. (First reading) Members of council briefly entered into an executive session for the purpose of considering the employment, dismissal, or compensation of an employee.
