Sheriff searches for possible hit-and-run driver

WYANDOT COUNTY — The Wyandot County Sheriff's Office is seeking help in locating a vehicle connected to a suspicious death investigation. According to a release from Wyandot County Sheriff Todd Frey, at approximately 1:42 a.m. April 23, deputies responded to County Road 9 in Sycamore following a report of a vehicle striking a body in a roadway. "Investigators believe two separate vehicle strikes occurred," the release states. "The first, which resulted in the victim's death and a second, post-mortem, which led to the discovery of the body and a 911 call." Preliminary findings, including an autopsy report generated by Lucas County Coroner's Office suggest the victim had been dead approximately two hours before deputies and Mohawk EMS and Fire responded to the scene. Surveillance footage was later obtained, showing an SUV or station wagon, possibly light in color traveling north on Ohio 231 and turning west on County Road 9 at approximately 11:34 p.m. April 22, about the time investigators have suggested the victim died. "This individual may have accidentally struck the victim and left out of fear," the release says. The Wyandot County Sheriff's Office is now asking citizens for help in locating the vehicle or driver they believe hit the victim first on April 22. Anyone with information regarding the case, particularly regarding an SUV that sustained damage consistent with the incident described above that might have occurred on April 22, is urged to contact the Wyandot County Sheriff's Office at 419-294-2362.
