TU business students earn global recognition

TIFFIN — Tiffin University business students were recently ranked among the Global Top 100 in the international Business Strategy Game for their performance during March and April. The BSG is an online simulation in which students manage a virtual athletic footwear company, competing head-to-head against teams from around the world. Each team makes strategic decisions in a global market, and rankings are based on overall score, earnings per share, return on equity and stock price. More than 38,500 students from 421 campuses across 43 countries participated this spring. One of TU's teams, made up of David Caplescu, Stefan Popescu, Andrei Stanculescu and Marcus Stewart, earned a perfect game-to-date score of 110.0, tying for first in the world in both March and April. Their earnings per share ranked fourth globally in March at $32.18, and their stock price of $615.74 was 25th. In April, their EPS of $30.70 placed them 31st. Another team, consisting of Mike Bond, William Linkhart, Gauge Samson and Kazi Welch, ranked 63rd worldwide in March for their return on equity, which came in at 61.2 percent. In a separate industry grouping, the team of Katelyn Atkinson, Vlad Halciug, Aubrie Harper and Maci Head earned global rankings for their score and earnings per share in both months. In March, their score of 109.5 ranked 39th, and their EPS of $23.23 ranked 44th. In April, their EPS rose to $39.29, placing sixth globally. "With thousands of teams competing from every corner of the globe, we are very proud of the success our students are having in this business simulation competition," said Dr. Tom Marben, dean of the School of Business. "These students are able to put their knowledge into practice through this engaging simulation, and it's a testament to the education they've received at Tiffin."
