Miller, Senecas power off to district crown

GIBSONBURG — The first day of the Division III district meet had just three scored events for the girls, with Calvert ending the day with just nine points.Two days later, Emily Miller and the Senecas roared back.Miller captured the 400 (1:01.46) and 800 (2:27.68), ran on the winning 4x400 (4:14.93) and anchored the 4x200 squad to third (1:49.26) to propel the Senecas past Margaretta 97-93 for the district championship.Those entries and five others will compete next week at the Fostoria regional for trips to the state meet. The top four in each event earned regional berths.There will be plenty of familiar names.Avery Elchert, Shelby Michaels and Rylan Perry ran with Miller on the victorious 4x400.Elchert, Farrah Gaulden, Karris Marinis joined Miller on the 4x200 team.Marinis added a title in the long jump (16-6) and Gaulden did the same in the 100 hurdles (15.76).Elchert, Carleigh Meier, Gaulden and Marinis crossed the line second in the 4x100 (51.38).Evelyn Pfleiderer ran third in the 100 hurdles (16.99) for the Senecas.Perry claimed fourth in the 300 hurdles (51.46).Calvert also got sixths from discus thrower Allison Ott (99-3), Elchert in the 100 (13.31) and Gaulden 200 (28.32).Michaels added a sixth in the 300 hurdles (53.1) and an eighth in the long jump (14-9 1/2).A handful of other area schools earned regional berths.Lakota finished sixth with 45 points on the strength of Aubrey Vittes titles in the 100 (12.63) and 200 (26.2) and her third in the pole vault (10-4).Kelsey Holman backed her with a fourth in the 400 (1:05.84).The Raiders also got sevenths from Chloe Foos in the discus (98-6) and Madelyn Reinhart in the 100 hurdles (18.0), while Rylee Markel ended eighth in the 300 hurdles (54.43).Hopewell-Loudon held off Old Fort 41-37 for seventh.Savanna Cook led H-L on the meet's second day with runner-up efforts in the long jump (16-5 1/2) and 200 (20.36) and a third in the 100 (13.08).Pole vaulter Grace Hintze added a fifth (9-0).Lilly Brickner took seventh in the long jump (15-2) and 400 (1:07.14) for the Chieftains.Eighths came from Natalie Wilson in the 100 hurdles (18.58) and Hannah Schreiner in the 1,600 (6:08.11).Old Fort's Carly Fortney ran third in the 400 (1:05.22).Fourths for the Stockaders went to Adelyn Dick in the 100 hurdles (17.16) and Grace Tackett in the 3,200 (12:09.87).Hannah Pemberton took fifth in the discus (100-5), as did Emmersyn Pump in the 400 (1:06.02).Sixths went to Adriana Hinojosa-Gonzalez in the 100 hurdles (17.67), the 4x100 team of Dick, Carly Fortney, Mackenzie Fortney and Marah Miller (54.77), and the 4x400 team of Kristin Combs, Carly Fortney, Makenzie Fortney and Pump (4:29.52).Dick finished seventh in the 300 hurdles (53.61), and the 4x200 team of Abby Ward, Lucy King, Miller and Hinojosa-Gonzalez did the same (1:56.84).New Riegel did not have any placers in Friday's portion of the meet. The Blue Jackets finished tied for 13th with 10 points. Runner-up Raiders send pack to regionalGIBSONBURG — Lakota's boys won two titles and 10 other regional berths Friday en route to claiming runner-up honors at the Division III track meet.Huron battled past the Raiders 127-118 for the team crown. Old Fort tied for fourth with 47 points, Calvert came in sixth (39), Hopewell-Loudon tied for seventh (36) and New Riegel ended 13th (13).The top five finishers in each event advanced to next week's regional meet at Fostoria.The runner-up Raiders will be well represented.Lucas McEwan captured the 110 hurdles (14.95) and ran second in the 300 hurdles (40.01).King Beard, Avery Shilling, Donovan Statham and Brady Tyson claimed the 4x400 (3:29.9) for Lakota's other championship.The Raiders got more runner-up honors from high jumper Jalen Wagner (6-0), pole vaulter Braxton Quaintance (14-8), Beard in the 100 (11.37) and Shilling in the 800 (2:05.2).Thirds came from Statham in the 400 (50.85), the 4x200 team of Paul Williams, Nate Grigson, Shilling and Beard (1:35.41), and the 4x100 team of Grigson, McEwan, Braxton Quaintance and Wagner (44.7).Grigson added a fourth in the 100 (11.51) and Beard did the same in the 200 (23.21).Lakota picked up sixths from Wyatt Brubaker in the 3,200 (10:10.29) and Williams in the 400 (55.18).Sevenths went to shot putter Chase Dean (43-7) and pole vaulter Carson Quaintance (11-6).Bryceson Ward ran eighth in the 110 hurdles (18.48).Henry Beisner keyed Old Fort by earning regional berths in three individual events. He ran third in the 300 hurdles (42.67) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.1), and added a fifth in the high jump (5-10).Stockaders Jake Beisner, Aidan Chapman, Brayden Davis and Aiden Dick clocked in third in the 4x400 (3:35.09).Fourths went to pole vaulter Evan Combs (13-0), Chapman in the 400 (52.13), the 4x200 team of Zach Peck, Dick, Davis and Issac Gallagher (1:36.99), and the 4x100 team of Jake Beisner, Chapman, Harry King and Brayden Davis (44.96).King added a sixth in the 100 (11.57), Chapman wound up seventh in the 200 (23.76) and Jake Beisner ended eighth in the 400 (55.63).Calvert's Lukas Stultz claimed third in the 200 (23.15) and fifth in the 400 (52.24).Nolan Lee added a fifth in the 100 (11.44) for the Senecas.Emmanuel Moreno too sixth in the 1,600 (4:54.53), as did the 4x200 team of Conley Stull, Joey Longo, Ethan Baugher and Lee (1:41.11), and the 4x400 team of Lee, Emmanuel Moreno, Stull and Stultz (3:45.87).Baugher also finished eighth in the high jump (5-4).Aiden Ewald of Hopewell-Loudon took runner-up honors in the shot (48-9).Xander Roerdink added a third in the 800 (2:05.43).Sevenths for the Chieftains went to Urban Elchert in the 110 hurdles (17.55) and Logan Lust in the 1,600 (4:55.38).The 4x200 team of Alden Zink, Brennan Schmidutz, Dexter Stacy and Elchert ended eighth (1:48.02).New Riegel's Cameron Hohman ran third in the 3,200 (9:51.92) and fifth in the 1,600 (4:43.26).Blue Jackets Collin Gosche, Kaiden Jones, Porter Lafontaine and Jayden Nye wound up eighth in the 4x400 (3:50.67). Tigers roll to district crownNORTH ROBINSON — Lucas Bordner and Evan Schiefer each claimed titles and seven other entries earned regional berths Friday as Seneca East's boys stormed their way to a Division III district championship.The Tigers bested Ashland Crestview 116-92 for the team title. Mohawk took fourth (65) and Buckeye Central ended 13th (17).Bordner captured the high jump (6-0) while Schiefer claimed the 3,200 (9:46.51) and added a third in the 1,600 (4:30.52).The top four in each event qualified for next week's regional at North Royalton.Along with the two championships, Seneca East also earned four runner-up finishes on the meet's second day.Owen Gahring ran second in the 800 (1:59.68), Brett Martin matched that in the discus (146-2) and the Tigers took second in the 4x100 (44.46) and 4x400 (3:29.39).Bryler Beamer led off both runner-up relays. Ethan Shultz, Taylor Young and Keegan Boes rounded out the 4x100, and Ayden Perkins, Gahring and Bradley Smith filled out the 4x400.Boes added a third in the high jump (5-8).The 4x200 team of Young, Shultz, Boes and Beamer crossed the line fourth (1:33.99).Levi Dawson finished fifth in the 200 (23.7).Discus thrower Mason Holmer took sixth (136-4).Sevenths went to Andrew Fay in the 400 (54.64) and Nevin Holmes in the 3,200 (10:38.98).Perkins wound up eighth in the 400 (55.99).Mohawk picked up six regional berths Friday, led by Brayden Cleveland's second in the 1,600 (4:29.25) and fourth in the 3,200 (10:16.43).Braxton Jenkins backed him with a second in the 300 hurdles (41.57).Andrew Woodland, John Stansberry, Jenkins and Mason Schimpf ran third in the 4x200 (1:33.06) for the Warriors.Jett Loesser took fourth in the 800 (2:03.24), and ran with Garrett Rinehart, Phoenix Nally and Schimpf to finish fourth in the 4x400 (3:31.5).Fifths came from Jenkins in the 110 hurdles (16.63), Stansberry in the 100 (11.62), Kolten Helton in the 800 (2:05.83) and Myer Kirian in the 3,200 (10:21.51).Sevenths went to Schimpf in the 100 (11.73), Nally in the 1,600 (4:48.08), and the 4x100 team of Woodland, Stansberry, Jack Sager and Schimpf (45.86).Buckeye Central's 4x200 team of Jack Phillips, Alec Phillips, Braden Siefert and Donnie Fourtner came in sixth (1:37.54). SE girls claim district 4x100NORTH ROBINSON — Seneca East's girls won a relay race and earned three other regional berths Friday on the second day of the Division III district meet.Isabel Stockmaster, Sayge Miller, Quinlan Burroughs and Cami Lantz captured the 4x100 (52.09) for the Tigers, who finished ninth in the team standings with 40 points.Colonel Crawford held off Ashland Crestview 87 1/2-82 for the team title.Buckeye Central took 11th (31) and Mohawk ended 12th (17).The top four finishers in each event qualified for next week's regional in Fostoria.Stockmaster also earned two individual regional berths, running second in the 100 hurdles (16.9) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (50.45).Lantz also claimed runner-up honors in the 800 (2:27.14) for the Tigers.Lydia Ruffing added an eighth in the 1,600 (6:18.02).Angela Figueroa (2:28.03) and Sophia Martin (2:28.43) crossed the line third fourth in the 800 to top Buckeye Central's efforts.Bailey Jackson ran fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.37) for the Buckettes.The 4x400 team of Sophia Martin, Nevaeh Metzger, Jenna Cianflone and Sarah Martin came in fifth (4:21.96).Averie Tackett, Paityn Hafner, Mara McDougal helped Buckeye Central end seventh in the 4x200 (1:59.65) and eighth in the 4x100 (55.52).Jackson anchored the 4x200, and Jenna Cianflone anchored the 4x100.Claire Johnson's fifth in the 1,600 (5:55.01) topped Mohawk's effort Friday.Emerson Gurney added a sixth in the 800 (2:35.86).Sevenths went to Addison Horner in the 3,200 (12:59.82), and the 4x400 team of Gurney, Chloe Miller, Johnson and Cara Peterson (4:32.85). Smith narrowly misses out on another sprint finalPUEBLO, Colorado — Leah Smith came close to reaching the finals in her second individual race, but just missed out.But she and her University of Findlay teammates did advance to the finals later in a relay.Smith, a University of Findlay sophomore and Calvert graduate, officially ran third in her heat of the women's 200 Friday at the NCAA Division II National Track and Field Championships.She and Shantae George of Lincoln (Mo.) officially both ran 23.33 seconds in the same heat, but George (23.322) nosed out Smith (23.324) by two-thousandths of a second to claim second and automatically advance to today's final.The top two in each of the three preliminary heats advanced to the final, with the remaining three spots going to the next three fastest times.Smith advanced to the finals in the 100 on Thursday.While she missed out on the finals in the 200, Smith anchored the Oilers to fourth in their heat Friday of the 4x400 (3:37.01).While she, Kylie Ray, Taylor Ivory and Jordan Taylor didn't automatically advance to the finals, their time was one of the next three fastest and qualified them to run today.
