TU to host summer music camp

TIFFIN — Tiffin University's Institute of Creative and Media Arts is set to host the Songwriting and Music Production Workshop for the 26th year this summer. Taking place July 12-17, the workshop will give campers access to tools and resources to create fully produced music. Executive director of the Institute of Creative and Media Arts and Tiffin University associate professor of commercial music Brad Rees wrote in an email to The Advertiser-Tribune that everyone in high school, college or amateur musicians who have an interest in creating and producing music is welcome to attend the workshop. For those interested in creating music but not confident in their abilities, Rees said the program has a "strong tradition of campers and staff providing the most supportive environment for those who are less experienced as performers, writers and producers." Those who go outside of their comfort zones receive encouragement and "leave camp with new abilities and a higher level of confidence," Rees said. Over the course of the camp, students will attend writing and music industry workshops, recording sessions, jam and open mic sessions and be treated to faculty performances, culminating in a public performance of new songs at the end of the week. Rees later said the lineup of current music artists slated to mentor campers includes producer and instrumentalist Brian Fitzy, pop-punk artist LEA, producer and artist PRISCA, singer-songwriter Regina Sayles and TU faculty and staff members Malik Mallard, JD Breidenbach and Rees. In a recent release about the workshop, Rees said, "(The workshop) is unique in that it gives participants from all backgrounds and experience levels a chance to explore developing their music-making skills in a supportive, accepting and collaborative environment. This year we are also extremely excited to offer the Songwriting and Music Production Workshop for college credit, available to both high school and college students." Attendance costs $675 and space is limited to 50 campers. On-campus meals and housing are provided and a limited amount of financial aid is available to those in need.
