Vineyard expansion program applications open

REYNOLDSBURG — Ohio grape growers and wineries can now apply for the 2025 Vineyard Expansion Assistance Program (VEAP), which helps fund the planting of new or replacement grape vines. Funded by the Ohio Grape Industries Committee (OGIC), VEAP supports both new and existing vineyards by covering the cost of high-quality, high-value grape vines grown in Ohio. The program aims to reduce the need to import grapes from out of state, expand local grape production, and increase the number of wines eligible for the Ohio Quality Wine (OQW) designation. "Ohio is recognized for the quality of our crops, and grapes are no exception," said Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Brian Baldridge. "Our grape industry contributes $6.6 billion to our economy. This program sets our growers up for continued success." Eligible Ohio growers may apply for up to $1,500 per half acre, with a maximum of three acres ($9,000). Vines must be planted in spring 2026. Ohio ranks seventh in the nation for wine production, with nearly 1,500 vineyard acres producing about 500,000 cases of wine each year. The state is home to 428 licensed wine manufacturers, supporting more than 40,000 full-time jobs.
