Carey council votes on oversight committee

CAREY — Carey Village Council had a first reading of ordinances to establish an audit advisory committee, a financial advisory committee and an oversight committee at its regular meeting Monday. The formation of these committees was first brought up by Councilmember Tyler Bame after other council members were accused of overstepping their roles. The way Bame described it at a previous meeting, the oversight committee would only be active when needed and would only include one council member that would be in charge of organizing the committee, but would not have voting power. The rest of the committee would be members of the community with knowledge in specific fields. For example, Bame said, if there was a financial problem, the committee would include several accountants. The readings of the formation of an audit advisory council and a financial advisory committee went through without debate, while Councilmember Derek Puchta tallied the sole objection to the reading for legislation to form the oversight committee. Also discussed at the meeting was the upcoming Mayor's Breakfast Meeting on June 10 in Marseilles and an upcoming grand opening event celebrating the completion of an all-inclusive playground. Also at the meeting council had a first reading of an ordinance revising and replacing tree commission ordinances, and the second reading of an ordinance approving the codification, editing and inclusion of certain ordinances as parts of various component codes of the codified ordinances of Carey and the second reading of an ordinance to modify an ordinance to an exception for licensed drivers for legally licensed ATV, UTV or golf carts on Blue Devil Parkway and adjust the bollards accordingly. The next Carey village council meeting is 7 p.m. June 16 at the Carey Fire Station.
