Carey man barred from teaching

TIFFIN — A Carey man has agreed to permanent denial by the state Board of Education for any teaching licenses, certifications and permits after being convicted of assaulting two juveniles earlier this year. Eugine M. Chintala, 64, was previously charged with two separate counts of assault for hitting two juvenile students while working as a substitute teacher at New Riegel Local Schools in late March. The incident, which occurred during an art class, was reported by a parent and corroborated by multiple student witnesses and the school principal, who observed a red mark on one victim. Chintala pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 180 days in jail, 177 suspended, and two years of probation. He admitted to yelling at the class and acknowledged tapping a student, though witnesses described the action as hitting or punching.
