TCS board takes step toward levy

TIFFIN — The Tiffin City Schools' board of education made a step forward in its proposed income tax levy. On Monday evening, the board voted to approve a resolution requesting certification of alternative tax rates for an income tax. The resolution states that the board determined that it is "necessary to raise annually the additional amount of $3,193,934" by proposing an earned income tax levy on the Nov. 4, 2025, ballot. If passed, the levy would affect those residing in the Tiffin City School district to provide "for current expenses of the school district for six years," the resolution reads. A copy of the resolution will be certified to the tax commissioner along with a request that the tax commissioner determine and certify the following: • The property tax rate that would have had to be imposed by the school district in the current year to equal $3,193,934 • The income tax rate that would have had to have been in effect for the current year to equal $3,193,934 After the tax commissioner has estimated and certified the property tax rate and the income tax rate as described above, the board must pass a resolution to proceed with the proposition of an income tax. In other news During Superintendent Jerry Nadeau's report, he gave an update about the district selling the 82 acres of land on SR 231, which was purchased by the board in 2019 for $998,000. The district has submitted a request for proposals for auction services. Proposals will be due by the end of the day on Monday, July 2. "This is a long process," Nadeau said. "It does take time. The board made a very wise decision to rent the land out for farm use one more time. So, as we are going through this process, we are collecting money." Also at the meeting, Nadeau presented two Crystal Apple awards. Karen Granata has been a paraprofessional and aide for the past 10 years at Lincoln Pre-K. Before this, she was a Tiffin City School teacher for 31 years. "I've really enjoyed my time here with all the students I've had in the past and now I'm on a new generation," Granata said. "It's been a lot of fun, thank you." Natallie Jones serves as a teacher at Washington Elementary School. "I want to say thank you to everybody," Jones said. "I am a second-generation educator. It is definitely the hardest job I've ever had but it is certainly the most rewarding job I've had. I've gotten to work with so many amazing people." The board then passed the following action items: 8.1 - Approve the school psychologist service agreement 8.2 - Approve the Seneca County General Health District contract 8.3 - Approve Navigate 360 and Protect 360 subscription 8.4 - Approve the Health Partners of Western Ohio memorandum of understanding 8.5 - Approve job descriptions for curriculum coordinator, school safety director and RTI/literacy coordinator 8.6 - Approve the Athletic Department handbook 8.7 - Approve the final fiscal year 25 appropriations and revenues 8.8 - Approve the fiscal year 26 temporary appropriations 8.9 - Approve the update IGBLA policy 8.10 - Approve the master service agreement between Specialized Education of Ohio and Tiffin City Schools 8.11 - Approve the service agreement between Tiffin City Schools and Trusted Talents, LLC, doing business as Schooley Mitchell 8.12 - Approve the bus driver routes for school year 2025-2026 8.13 - Approve the Northwest Ohio Area Computer Services Cooperative Services agreement from July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026 8.14 - Approve Perry Pro Tech service agreement for PaperCut 8.15 - Approve a resolution requesting certification of alternative tax rates for an income tax The next school board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on July 28, at Tiffin Middle School, 103 Shepherd Dr., in the cafeteria.
