Lento named Calvert principal

TIFFIN — After a year serving in multiple leadership roles at Calvert Catholic Schools, Mike Lento has been named principal of the Academy and High School Campus, which serves students in grades 6 through 12. Lento, who lives in Tiffin with his wife and three children, stepped into the role after a year as Dean of Students, interim assistant principal and head football coach. He said the experience gave him a close-up view of the school's culture and priorities. "My first year taught me the value of listening deeply, being present, and building relationships," Lento said. "Whether supporting students through challenges or working with teachers, I learned that consistent communication and clear expectations are key to a healthy school culture. We do this as a team, and I can't be more proud of the team we have." He also expressed appreciation for the hiring committee and administration, as well as Megan Schultz for her guidance throughout the transitions of the past year. Lento's background includes time in the Lakota Local School District, where he oversaw in-school suspension procedures, a credit recovery program and taught business through a partnership with Vanguard Career and Technology Center. He holds a bachelor's degree and master's degree in business and recently completed a certification in Career and Technical Education with a focus on business management. Currently, Lento is pursuing an alternative administrative license through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. As he takes on the role officially, Lento shared that he's guided by three core values: fairness, compassion and integrity. "Fairness means treating every student with consistency while understanding their unique situations," he said. "Compassion means taking time to know each student beyond academics, showing them they matter. Integrity means modeling the values we ask of them—being honest, transparent, and accountable in every decision." Looking ahead to the 2025-26 school year, Lento said he aims to build on Calvert's academic strengths while continuing to support student well-being. "My top priorities — alongside continuing our strong partnerships with area universities and Sentinel Career Center — are to enhance academic standards, expand academic offerings, support staff development, and ensure every student feels safe, valued, and known," he said. "Above all, we will continue to embrace the incredible blessing of Christ's presence in our school — not just once a day, but multiple times — reminding us that we need Him now more than ever."
