Bellevue set to upgrade water, gas lines

BELLEVUE — Bellevue officials announced that residents can soon expect improved water pressure and quicker rainwater drainage in the city after completing construction on West Main Street. Bellevue Mayor Kevin Strecker said an ongoing large-scale project to replace the main water line and gas lines could be completed by October. It originally started in spring. Strecker said that the old main water line was originally installed underneath the street, but that the city has since moved the water main to the boulevard. "Replacement of gas lines is being performed, as well as new catch basins and curbs," Strecker said. Strecker stated that the water main line was long overdue for an upgrade and needed replacement. "We were developing more and more leaks, and it was time for replacement," Strecker said. "While we were doing the main replacement, Columbia Gas was great to work with to get their lines replaced so we could then put down new pavement." Construction is ongoing along West Kilbourne Street to the 700 block of West Main Street. "All parts of Bellevue will be affected by traffic flow. Both east and west lanes will be down to one lane," Strecker said. More side streets in that area could be subject to closures as construction continues, he added. The total cost of the project was $780,000, and was paid for through the city's water line account.
