Army historian from Fostoria to speak in BG

BOWLING GREEN — Retired Sgt. 1st Class Joshua Mann, who grew up in Fostoria, is scheduled to talk about the United States Army's 148th Infantry Regiment at 6 p.m., Aug. 12 at the Wood County Museum.Admission will be free for museum members and $7 per person for others, which includes, the talk, light refreshments and a tour of the museum's exhibits. The talk will be the third of four scheduled in the museum's World War II lecture series. The museum is located at 13600 County Home Road.The 148th Infantry regiment was an Ohio National Guard Unit that was based in various northwest Ohio communities, including Bowling Green's Company F. The regiment spent five years in active service during World War II and amassed 592 days in combat in the South Pacific.The regiment earned the Presidential Unit Citation for its part in the liberation of the Philippines in 1945, and six of its members earned the Medal of Honor.Mann has been the Ohio National Guard historian since April 2004. He enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard in March 1995 as a cavalry scout and retired in April 2025.He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 148th infantry for nine years, which included mobilization in support of Operation Noble Eagle, which is the North American Aerospace Defense Command's ongoing mission to protect the airspace of the United States and Canada.Mann was appointed to the Ohio Civil War 150 Committee and Ohio War of 1812 Centennial Committee and served on the historian team for the U.S. Army World War I Centennial programs in France and Belgium in 2018.Reservations for the program are available online at www.woodcountyhistory.org or by calling 419-352-0967.
