Fostoria school activities set for next week

FOSTORIA — Classes in Fostoria City Schools don't start quite yet, but the district's engine is already running.The district is set to host its Meet the Teams Night at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, with the Back-to-School Bash set for the following day at 5 p.m.Meet the Teams Night, at Market Square Park in downtown Fostoria, will give the fall athletic squads' coaches the chance to introduce their team members and talk about the upcoming season. The event comes just days after official practices began today."Our athletic director, Thom Loomis, has organized this event for the last three years," Courtney Fleming, the school district's director of human resources and public relations, wrote in an email. "Having it downtown on the (UrbanWoody Brewery) stage is a great opportunity for our community to come out to support our student-athletes and see what is in store for athletics in the coming school year."Market Square Park is located at the intersection of Main and Tiffin streets."Having it in the greenspace provides a centralized location for our community and there is plenty of space fore people to bring a chair, be introduced to our coaches and teams and enjoy the evening," Fleming wrote.The UrbanWoody Brewery and HoneyBee Winery, located at 105 E. Tiffin St., will host an ice cream social during the Meet the Team Night as a fundraiser for the Fostoria Area Historical Society."Hopefully, combining these two events will make for a great turnout of community members supporting the community," Fleming wrote.The Back to School Bash, with no admission charge, annually takes place in the west parking lot of Fostoria Junior/Senior High School, 1001 Park Ave. The event enables students and parents to acquire information and supplies and generally enjoy themselves."We have had a great turnout for our Back-to-School Bashes in the past, and they continue to grow each year," Fleming wrote. "Families enjoy getting school information before the year starts and appreciate the school supplies that are given out. Students are excited to play on the bounce houses, see friends they haven't seen all summer and find out who is in their class for the upcoming school year."Food trucks will be on the grounds, and Fostoria City Schools staff and community organizations will be at tables where families can receive information and free school supplies. Fostoria Junior/Senior High School students may receive their schedules for the school year, and elementary students will be able to pick up their home-room folders and find out who their teachers will be.Families with students who ride a bus and have filled out their final forms for the year may pick up their bus passes. Families who have not completed their final forms may get together with staff members to accomplish that. Passes, however, will only be available that day to those who had completed their final forms prior to the event.Those who don't receive their materials at the Back-to-School Bash may do so and meet their teachers at the school district's open house, scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m., Aug. 18.The school district will have a rolling start to the school years, with students in grades 1, 3, 5, 7 and 8 starting on Aug.19, those in grades 2, 4, 6 and 9 through 12 beginning on Aug. 20 and all students due in class on Aug. 21. Preschool will begin on Aug. 25.Commencement is scheduled for noon, May 17, 2026, and the last day of school is set for May 21.
