Reineke to seek seat as senate president

COLUMBUS — Ohio Senate President Pro Tempore Bill Reineke (R-Tiffin) has announced his intention to seek the Senate presidency for the 2027-2028 General Assembly. "I felt that I had the right skill set," Reineke said, along with a strong record of collaboration with current members of the Ohio legislature. He shared that it's somewhat early to voice his interest in the seat, but feels now is "the right time to move forward." Reineke said, following in the footsteps of Representative Paul Gillmore, a Tiffin native who served as senate president in the 1980s, would be "a big honor." Rob McColley (R-Napoleon) currently serves as Senate president, but is term-limited after the current General Assembly. "It's been an honor to serve in President McColley's leadership team this General Assembly," Reineke shared. He reflected on the efforts of the Ohio Senate under McColley's purview. "We've enacted transformational energy reform on a bipartisan basis and delivered a historic operating budget that includes significant tax relief and meaningful investments in our state," Reineke stated. If chosen to serve as Senate President, Reineke said he "will work collaboratively to build on the progress made by the strong conservative leadership we've had these past several years."
