Carey council honors deceased chief

CAREY — Carey Village Council held a moment of silence Monday for retired Carey police Chief Dennis Yingling, who died Aug. 2. Yingling, according to his obituary, served as police chief for the village from 1992 to 2006. He was also a husband and father and was an active member of the Carey Kiwanis Club, the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, Northwest Ohio Youth Camp and Bright Road Church of Christ. Village administrator Mike Roszman reminded residents that the last day the village pool will be open is Aug. 14, due to lifeguards having to return to school. "It's unsafe," he said. "We won't have enough help." He also said not to blow grass clippings into roadways because they can get caught in drainage systems and may cause flooding. Instead, he also reminded residents that there is a village compost site where yard clippings can be left. Also at the meeting, council voted to pass a resolution approving the fiscal officer's certification of certain then and now purchase orders exceeding the amount of $3,000 each, dispensing with the second and third readings and declaring an emergency. Council also discussed the usage of motorized scooters and bikes, but voted to table a decision until the next meeting. The next Carey Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at the safety building.
