Off to the Races

ATTICA — Fun at the fair in Attica continued on Thursday as some residents participated in the fair's annual Weiner Dog Races. For a racetrack that is used to seeing sprint cars, the grand stands were packed with residents who were eager to see the competitive canines. Following the event, participating youth took part in another fair tradition— the pig scramble. Off to the Races Donna Neidermeir, the fair board member responsible for the event, shared that the fair has been host to the weiner races for roughly six years now. The event itself consists of two parts: a race and a costume contest. Participating dogs begin the race with an introduction to the crowd, allowing them to show off their costumes. This year, eleven dogs participated in the race. The winner was named to be Jojo, a dachshund that lives in the village with the Parks family. Julie Parks, Jojo's owner, shared following the race that Jojo is a competitive pup, and that he recently took the gold at the Richland County Fair as well.
