Freshmen Toby Holman, Thomas Treadway, Will Tucker.Outlook: Coach Graham Treadway has been coaching golf for 20 years and knows a thing or two when it comes down to making just the winning combination for a competitive and growth oriented team.After coming off of a second-place showing in the N10 last season, Upper Sandusky will have one more chance to get the title before the expansion of the conference next year."We have a solid nucleus, a solid core of returners," Upper Sandusky coach Graham Treadway said. "They have been working hard over the summer, and are aiming to build off of last year's success while developing a new core of golfers."The first notable returner for the Rams is lone senior Arden Stansbery. The four-year letter winner earned second-team All-N10 and is predicted to be the anchor of the team this season. He had an average of 86 in 18 holes of golf, but his dedication to get better in the offseason hasn't gone unnoticed by Treadway."I'm confident he will get that number lower." Treadway said.Joining Stansbery on the course will be returning juniors Seth Smith and Gage Thiel. Smith is a two-year letter winner and is looking to lower his average from 90 down to the 80s."He is a consistent contributor to the team," Treadway said. "He also could be in the top of the lineup."Thiel is looking to advance in the lineup on the varsity team and become a key part of the team.The final returner for US is sophomore Sam Gibson. He gained experience last season by playing varsity matches and Treadway is wanting Gibson to play a bigger role for the golf program.New to the program this season and vying for a spot is junior Jacob Beidelschies. He has shown improvement since being on the course last season.One newcomer that is making an impression on Treadway is freshman Toby Holman. "He has a raw talent for the game," Treadway said. "Holman also has a maturity, and athleticism that captured my attention. He is quickly emerging as one of the top underclassmen and could definitely make a name for himself quickly."The Rams graduated three seniors from last season: Brock Montgomery, Cy Young, and David Gibson. Montgomery led the team to an individual state championship run, where he finished fourth place at the Division II State Championship at Firestone. Young was a three-year letter winner. All three brought leadership and consistency to the program that will need to be replaced.Treadway isn't worried though: while the lack of experience in high tournament play might be the main weakness of the golf program, he remains optimistic considering that seven to eight are competing for varsity spots and that it is competitive. For him, the goals this season are clear: get better every day, focus and play each round with a purpose, and win the N10 Championship."While we boast solid depth and internal competition," Treadway said. "We will need to address our weakness. Expect the Rams to have a competitive and growth-driven season on the course."
