A combination of six returners and five new members.It wasn't always that way though."Several years ago, we only had three golfers," coach Mitch Robinette said. "We couldn't compete as a team. It was all individual scores."Last year was the first year since 2016 that they had 11 golfers.Speaking of last season, the Buckettes came in third place in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference, with 20 points. Their record was 12-7 overall and 8-4 in the N10 with a team average of 206.07.Buckeye Central graduated five seniors. Elizabeth Krebs who was named first-team N10 and had an average of 45.79. Makayla Martin (51.54) and Kara Presler (54.79) were named second-team N10, and Sam Utz (56.50) was honorable mention. The final senior was Maddy Martin.With only two returning seniors, both Sullivan and Eva Presler will have big shoes to fill if they wish to compete in a tough league. They will be the last seniors to experience the conference of Seneca East, Carey, Wynford, Mohawk, Upper Sandusky, Bucyrus, and Colonel Crawford before the expansion and split next season.Robinette attributes the toughness of the competition of the league to helping the team be more competitive at outings and knows that this year will be no different."The seniors from last year left behind a solid foundation for the classes behind them to follow," Robinette said. "Our seniors will be our leaders this year, have shown much growth, and picked up where they left off from last season."With BC being the smallest school in the league, being able to field 11 players is no small feat, but one that Robinette is proud to share. Prior to 2016 according to N10 records, 12 was the largest group in 2017. It dropped down to three in 2020 when Robinette became the head coach. He is now in his fifth year at the helm and the program has seen steady growth."I'm very proud and excited to have our program grow in numbers and abilities," Robinette said. "While we are the smallest school in the N10, we have some of the largest number of players in the league and that says a lot about the makeup of the team."While getting deep into tournaments and being in the top of the league placement is always a goal of any team, this year, the Buckettes have one more goal in mind this season."They want to compete," Robinette said. "They want the BC community to be proud of their play, their classroom achievements, and the young people that will be contributors in society after they graduate."
