House fire in Old Fort

OLD FORT — A house fire occured Monday morning at 4461 N. CR 33, with one of the homeowners receiving minor injuries to his hands, according to Chief Craig Mellott of Old Fort Volunteer Fire Department. The homeowner was first taken to Tiffin Mercy Health Hospital before later being transported to St. Vincent Medical Center of Toledo. The call, Mellott said, came in at 7:55 a.m. with reports of a fire inside of the garage attached to the residence. "I was on the first truck in and could tell it had spread to the rest of the house," Mellott said. Members of the department continued to battle the blaze until approximately 9:30 a.m. when it was deemed under control. Mellott continued, noting there were roughly 35 firefighters from different departments on scene with roughly 15,000-20,000 gallons of water used. Also on scene were members of Bettsville Fire, Clinton Township Fire, Green Springs Fire and Tiffin Fire and Rescue, as well as personnel from Seneca County EMS. The source of the blaze is currently undetermined. Mellott said it remains under investigation by the Ohio Fire Marshall's office.
