Tiffin school board member resigns

TIFFIN — Tiffin City Schools Board of Education member Dustin Williams announced his resignation Monday evening, effective Sept. 1. "I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude and for the opportunity to serve on this board," Williams said. "It's been an honor to work alongside such dedicated individuals in support of our students, staff and community." Williams said his resignation is due to his family relocating outside the district. He added that while he is hopeful for the district's future, he remains cautious about "continuing challenges in front of our district, not the least of which is a rapidly changing landscape of both public and private school funding. "As my time on this board comes to an end, I challenge the remaining members and the future new member to leave behind their ideas about how public and private schools used to work and how they used to be funded," Williams said. "I challenge all of you to challenge our district's administration to think and act in new ways, even when it feels like we're digging too deep or asking too many questions. I challenge all of you to have strong opinions, make them known and stand by them even when it's hard." Other board members thanked Williams for his service. He was elected in November 2021 and began his term in January 2022. Williams' seat is up for election in November, along with seats currently held by board members Larry Kisabeth and Victor Perez. Kisabeth and Perez will appear on the ballot with Joanna Beres. According to the Board of Education member handbook, Williams' resignation creates a vacancy that must be filled by the board at its next regular or special meeting, no earlier than 10 days and no later than 30 days after the vacancy occurs. A majority vote of the remaining members is required to fill the seat. The appointee will serve through Dec. 31. Other board action The board also approved: • Collective bargaining agreement No. 631 • An electric audit project agreement The next board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at Tiffin Middle School, 103 Shepherd Dr., Tiffin.
