Golf Scramble to raise awareness for Prostate Cancer The 17th Annual Prostate Cancer Awareness Golf Scramble is set for Sept. 7 at Clinton Heights Golf Course. The event will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8 a.m. All 34 team slots are filled, but hole sponsorships and donations are still being accepted to support prostate cancer education efforts in the community. Since its creation, the Prostate Cancer Awareness Fund of The Tiffin Community Foundation has granted $82,500 to the Mercy Health Foundation and plans to provide at least $10,000 more this year. Funds support education about prostate cancer and men's health through the organization's ManUp! campaigns. Hole sponsorships start at $25. Summer Crisis Program Assistance concludes From July 1 through Sept. 30, 2025, income-eligible Ohioans could receive assistance through the Ohio Department of Development's Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program (HEAP) to help pay electric bills, purchase an air conditioner or fan, or repair a central AC unit. The program served more than 44,000 households during this period, supporting those who are low-income, have a disconnection notice, need cooling for someone 60 or older, or have a qualifying medical condition. Downtown Tiffin seeks community feedback Downtown Tiffin, in partnership with Heritage Ohio, is conducting a short survey to gather feedback from the community. The goal is to ensure that the voices of those who live, work, and invest in Tiffin are heard as the organization looks to the future. The survey is expected to take approximately 10 minutes to complete, and responses will help identify community priorities and guide the future direction of Downtown Tiffin. To protect participants' privacy, Heritage Ohio is collecting responses on behalf of Downtown Tiffin. Results will be reviewed by the Downtown Tiffin Board of Trustees and staff during a strategic planning session later this month. George Norris The Clyde Museum will host a program Sept. 9 about U.S. Sen. George Norris, a nationally recognized political leader who was born and raised near Clyde. The presentation, by Tiffany Willey Middleton of Chicago, will run from 6:30-8 p.m. in the museum's Hurd Room. Admission is free, and donations will be accepted. Norris began his life growing up on a Clyde-area farm, before studying law and later moving to Nebraska, where he was elected to Congress in 1902. He went on to serve in the U.S. Senate from 1913-1943 and became known for his independent political style and reform-minded legislation. Norris is credited with establishing Nebraska's unicameral legislature, co-authoring the Rural Electrification Act, and playing a key role in creating the Tennessee Valley Authority, a landmark New Deal program. The event is sponsored by the Clyde Heritage League. Parking is available behind the museum, on nearby streets, and at the Edward Jones Financial offices at W. Buckeye and George streets. Patrol reports 23 fatalities over Labor Day weekend The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported 23 deaths in 20 fatal crashes over the four-day Labor Day weekend, which ran from midnight Friday, Aug. 29, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1. Preliminary statistics show at least four crashes were OVI-related. Troopers made 398 impaired-driving arrests and 67 drug-related arrests during the holiday period. Of the fatalities in which a seat belt was available, seven people were not wearing one. Troopers issued 1,872 seat belt citations, 1,308 citations for distracted driving, and responded to 490 crashes. In Seneca County, troopers responded to 114 incidents but reported no fatalities. The public is encouraged to report drug activity and dangerous or impaired driving by calling #677. Poultry workshop The Ohio State University Extension of Seneca County will host a workshop at 6 p.m. Sept. 25 titled "All About Poultry" with Paige Kelly of the Ohio Poultry Association. Kelly, the organization's sustainability and environmental manager, shared that the workshop will be both educational and informational, and is relevant to new or current backyard farmers, youth exhibitors and other community members. Glen Arnold, county extension educator, will explore different manure management options for those with animal litter. Arnold will also show and discuss the different manure application options while helping those in attendance understand the best options for their own or other operations. Pressley Buurma, agriculture and natural resources educator, will show those in attendance how to properly care for poultry and everything needed to raise poultry. Buurma will also be discussing the different housing, care and management types for different types of operations. Fostoria Community movie night "Mufasa" will be shown during Saturday's Fostoria Community Movie Night, scheduled for 8 p.m., Saturday in Jackson Park, Fostoria. No admission will be charged for the event sponsored by Daddy and Kay's Pizza and Cheesecakes and Downtown ReEvented.
