Compost giveaway begins October 1 The city of Tiffin will begin its annual giveaway of compost Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Water Pollution Control Center, 961 N. Water St., for city residents. Hours will be daily from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. When available, city employees will load pickup trucks and small trailers for the first week, then the giveaway will open up to larger vehicles. Mulch and wood chips are also onsite. Questions may be addressed to the WPCC at (419) 448-5440. Tiffin University Giving Day Tiffin University will host its seventh annual Fuel the Fire Giving Day September 17. The charitable event gives alumni, employees and friends of TU the opportunity to show their appreciation for the institution by coming together and contributing to its ongoing growth. In 2024, TU received $433,916 from 2870 donations, demonstrating the generosity and commitment of the TU family. Giving Day contributions support scholarships, student programs and clubs, academic initiatives, athletic teams, faculty development, campus improvements and other initiatives. LPDC to meet The Tiffin City Board of Education's Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC) will meet Tuesday, September 9, at 2:45 p.m. at Tiffin Middle School. Bascom Joint Fire District meeting change The Bascom Joint Fire District is changing its regular scheduled meeting from Thursday, September 11, to Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. All meetings take place at the Bascom Joint Fire Central Station. GLCAP Board of Directors meeting The September GLCAP Board of Directors Meeting will take place Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 6:30-8 p.m., at 127 S. Front St., Fremont. Students, educators to be recognized at West Independence A blessing of the backpacks and students in kindergarten through the 12th grade will follow the Children's Moments along with a recognition of educators at the 9 a.m., Sunday service at West Independence Church.West Independence is a Global Methodist Church, located at 22876 U.S. Route 224. Its worship services are livestreamed on YouTube.The sermon series "Daniel" will begin with scripture taken from Daniel 1:8-17. The Rev. Ben Wallick will present the sermon titled "Resisting Babylon."Communion will also be served during worship.Coffee fellowship will follow worship in the Family Life Center. Sunday school classes will begin at 10:15 a.m., with a variety of topics available for all ages.The Student Ministry group will resume from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, in the Family Life Center and the Loft. Students in grades 6 through 12 may attend.The praise band is scheduled to begin practice from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday. The band needs a guitar player. Interested persons should contact the church office.Adult choir practice is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., Wednesday in Room 11 of the church. All adults are welcome to join.
