Attica man arrested after multiple-county pursuit

ATTICA — Zachary O. Chandler, 36, of Attica was arrested on Saturday after an hourlong chase with police came to an end in Attica. According to an incident report provided by the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, the 2010 Chevrolet (operated by Chandler) was travelling northbound on U.S. 250 at approximately 10:14 p.m. when deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. According to officials, Chandler's vehicle initially slowed down before attempting to speed away, prompting a pursuit that stretched across multiple counties. The chase continued westbound along U.S. 224, with speeds fluctuating between 30 and 70 miles per hour. Authorities said Chandler ignored traffic signals, including a red light, while traveling through several communities. Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Huron County sheriff's deputies joined the pursuit, deploying spike strips to slow the vehicle. At one point, Chandler's right rear tire was reportedly running on its rim, but the vehicle continued to travel westbound. Law enforcement noted Chandler had allegedly threatened to use a firearm during the chase. When the pursuit reached Attica just after 11 p.m., deputies and troopers boxed in the vehicle near Chandler's residence. Chandler was taken into custody after a Taser was deployed. Deputies recovered a firearm from Chandler's person and another inside the vehicle. The car was impounded, and Chandler was transported for medical evaluation and later booked into jail. Assisting during the pursuit were Greenwich Police Department, Willard Police Department and Seneca County Sheriff's Office.
