Meeting Notices The City of Tiffin Civil Service Commission is meeting at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18. The meeting will be held both in person at 51 E. Market Street, in the Administrative Conference Room, and virtually at meet.google.com/opy-poye-kae 2025 Community Needs Assessment Report The City of Tiffin, in partnership with the Seneca County Collaborative, has published the 2025 Community Needs Assessment Report. More than 120 residents participated in ward meetings and an online survey to identify community priorities for the city's 2026 Community Development Block Grant application, which will make Tiffin eligible for about $150,000 in federal funding. Common themes included repairs to streets and sidewalks, park improvements, housing and homelessness services, youth programming, public safety, stormwater and sewer infrastructure, and environmental initiatives. City staff will review the ideas over the next several months and expect to select one project for the grant application in spring 2026. The full report is available at tiffincdbg.com Medicare information session set for Oct. 10 The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Insurance, will host a free Medicare and Part D prescription drug benefits session at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in the Hawkins Conference Center, 2131 Park Ave. West, Ontario, Ohio. Representatives from the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) will provide information on Medicare options, answer questions, and help attendees prepare for open enrollment, which runs Oct. 15–Dec. 7. German-American Day to return to Wood County Museum The Wood County Museum will host its 22nd annual German-American "Story Slam" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the museum, 13660 County Home Rd., Bowling Green. The program will begin with a talk by retired BGSU professor Geoff Howes on "The German-Americans Who Helped Build Bowling Green and Wood County," followed by a story slam where participants may share five-minute stories on German-American heritage, genealogy, or cultural experiences. Mercy Health, partners host annual EMS Training Day Mercy Health - St. Vincent Medical Center will hold its annual EMS Training Day on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Center for Emergency Preparedness at Owens Community College in Walbridge. The event, held in partnership with Owens and multiple local EMS and fire agencies, will provide emergency medicine residents with hands-on training in hazardous materials, vehicle extrication, fire suppression, splinting, and flight simulation. A mass casualty drill simulating a plane crash is also planned. Partner agencies include Mercy Health – Life Flight Network, Toledo S.W.A.T., Toledo Refining Company, Cenovus Refinery, and several fire departments. Mercy College of Ohio nursing students will participate as victims. City of Tiffin seeking applicants for Finance Director The City of Tiffin is accepting applications for its next finance director through Sept. 24. The role includes collecting taxes and other funds, overseeing investments and disbursements, maintaining accounts, advising the mayor and council on fiscal matters, and supervising finance department staff. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field, plus 3–5 years of public sector finance experience or an equivalent background. The position pays $38.71–$42.57 per hour for 40 hours per week. Applications and the full job description are available at www.tiffinohio.gov Fall Fridays showcase campus life at Heidelberg Heidelberg University is inviting prospective students and their families to Fall Fridays at the Berg, a series of campus visit days designed to showcase life as a Student Prince. Visitors can tour the campus, meet professors and current students, and connect with an Admissions counselor to learn about applying to Heidelberg. Each Fall Friday visit day focuses on three of the university's seven schools, with the exception of Oct. 3, which is a Homecoming Open House for all schools. The tour, featuring a 20-foot Caravel Airstream trailer, offers on-board student voter registration, nonpartisan election information, and interactive activities designed to energize new and first-time voters. The trailer will be on campus from 9 a.m.-noon at Tiffin University's and from 1-4 p.m. at Heidelberg University. Students can engage with LWVO representatives, enjoy music, snacks, prizes, and learn about Ohio's voting rules. The statewide tour began Aug. 22 in Columbus and continues through Oct. 6, the last day to register to vote for Ohio's general election. This is the second year for the Airstream tour, with more than 25 colleges scheduled across Ohio.
