Attica councilman's court hearing reassigned

ATTICA — Attica Village Councilman Kirk Stanfield appeared in court Sept. 17 for a pretrial hearing after being arrested at a council meeting Sept. 11, on a charge of disturbing a lawful meeting. At the pretrial hearing, Stanfield's case was reassigned for a judge's pretrial on Oct. 20 at 9:30 a.m., with body camera footage pending review and time waived. According to an incident report from the Seneca County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the Attica Village Council chambers on Sept. 11 after council members voted 4-1 to have Councilman Kirk Stanfield removed from the meeting for disruptive behavior. Deputies said the meeting was delayed for about 20 minutes, as Stanfield refused repeated requests to leave, arguing with council and officers before ultimately extending his hands to be handcuffed. He was transported to the Seneca County Jail. Nine statements were collected from council members, the mayor and the village solicitor, who reported that Stanfield raised his voice, used profanity and ignored the mayor's gavel as business was attempted.
