Calvert, Heidelberg lockdown for armed person in vicinity

TIFFIN — Students at Heidelberg University, as well as at Calvert High School, briefly entered into a lockdown Monday as a result of reports of an armed aggravated person near Rebecca St. According to Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly, the lockdown was in place for roughly an hour and a half. The incident reportedly followed a domestic dispute involving Tiffin resident Zachary A. Davis, 20, who incurred a warrant for his arrest on an aggravated assault charge. According to dispatchers, the call came in about 10:56 a.m. with reports of an individual involved in a domestic dispute with his mother. The lockdown was called almost immediately after, with Chief Pauly saying "it was simply an abundance of caution." During the dispute, Davis reportedly brandished a firearm before fleeing into the wooded area near Rock Creek. After arriving on scene, TPD conducted an extensive search, utilizing K-9 units and finding Davis to no longer be in the area. "At no point were any students or staff from either institution in any danger," said Pauly. Individuals who see Davis or know about his whereabouts are encouraged to call the police at 419-447-2323.
