Tornadoes crowd top 20 for championship

FOSTORIA — Five Columbian scorers ran in the top 20 to help TC fend off Elmwood for the title while New Riegel's Cameron Hohman took runner-up honors to lead all area individual efforts Saturday at the Fostoria Carl Fisher Invitational.Columbian edged Elmwood 61-62 for the crown, with New Riegel claiming third in the 15-team field with 70 points.Clyde took ninth over Carey on a tiebreaker after both ended with 251 points, Bellevue finished 12th (288) and Fostoria came in 14th (315). Calvert did not field a full team.Noah Townsend (17:28.03) and Xavier Melick (17:31.81) crossed the line fourth and fifth for the champion Tornadoes, Conner Dukeshire ran 15th (18:17.58), Owen Hoyda came in 17th (18:35.38) and Marcellino Gallardo took 20th (18:43.7).Christopher Edwards (52nd, 20:06.71) and Landon Hinke (53rd, 20:07.05) rounded out TC.Hohman's runner-up finish came in 16:52.14.Alec Hohman backed him with a 10th (18:04.87) for the Blue Jackets, Isaiah Wood (18:36.09) and Porter Lafontaine (18:37.77) ran 18th and 19th, and Luke Conley wound up 21st (18:47.5).Lance Clouse (23rd, 18:53.7) and Jaren Popenberg (27th, 19:07.66) also ran for New Riegel.Clyde's Zachary Clapp ran 25th (19:05.67), Chris Bulger came in 57th (20:13.2), Bentley Meade took 59th (20:18.29), Michael Gessner ended 64th (20:39.72) and Jason Riccie finished 66th (20:53.51).Fliers Preston Widman (78th, 21:29.02) and Cooper Framstad (90th, 22:23.87) also competed.Riley Miller's 34th (19:21.81) keyed Carey. Rams take 4th, 7th at HardingMARION — Upper Sandusky's girls claimed fourth and boys took seventh Saturday in their respective races at the Marion Harding Invitational.Northmor upended Findlay 91-114 for the girls title, with the Rams scoring 149 points for fourth in the 20-team event.Jocelyn Leightey's seventh (20:21.7) keyed Upper Sandusky. Abigail Ault backed her with a 17th (21:07.7), Madison Miles ran 31st (21:42.7), Macie Clark came in 42nd (22:13) and Madison Wengerd took 75th (23:35.9).Felicity Bils (93rd, 24:11.1) and Lia Wilkinson (107th, 24:41.9) also ran for Upper Sandusky.Mount Gilead stormed past Defiance 48-148 for the crown in the boys 21-team race. Snay-led Tigers drop H-LBASCOM — Lexi Snay nearly served her way to a triple-double and Bryn Meyer added a double-double Saturday to propel Seneca East past Hopewell-Loudon 25-9, 25-20, 25-15.Snay tallied 23 kills, 10 digs and nine aces for the Tigers (8-12), and Meyer (2 blocks) provided 23 kills and 14 digs.Paige Strauser backed them with 30 assists and nine digs, Luella Burkholder slammed three aces and Lilly Burkholder lined three kills.Maddie Holcomb keyed H-L with 18 digs, Anna Bloom belted 12 blocks and Savanna Cook had eight assists, five digs and three kills.Alexis Fedele tossed up eight assists, Araceli Valesquez added seven digs and four kills, Lilly Brickner drilled five kills, Emery Siebenaller (2 kills, 2 blocks) and Erin Daniel each chipped in three digs, and Persilla Ragle and Karsyn Snyder both had two digs. Blue Devils fend off McCombCAREY — Rylie Stoops belted 18 kills and three teammates had at least six Saturday as Carey outlasted McComb 19-25, 25-15, 26-24, 22-25, 15-4.Stoops also tallied 20 digs, four aces and four assists for the Blue Devils (14-5).Emily Brodman and Abbi Seager both slammed eight kills and Sophia Klein drilled six.Brodman also came up with 22 digs, Seager provided 16 and Klein chipped in five. TC duo takes thirdFREMONT — Columbian's Olivia Dotson and Leah Wahl claimed third Saturday in doubles competition at the Division I sectional tournament.The Tornadoes beat Ashland's Gwenyth Miller and Lynsie Witte 6-0, 6-0.Dotson and Wahl qualified for the district tournament, which starts Thursday at Port Clinton.They will join teammates Leah Weingart and Elise Johnston, who qualified in singles competition Thursday, at the district. Shasteen moves up career points listFORT JENNINGS — Shiloh Shasteen scored one goal and assisted on another Saturday to help Upper Sandusky slip past Fort Jennings.The goal and assist gives the junior 102 career points for the Rams (6-8-1), putting her sixth on the program list in that category.She scored off an penalty kick with 25 minutes left in the opening half, then assisted on Erica Ruhlen's goal nearly six minutes later to help stake Upper Sandusky to a 2-0 lead.The Musketeers (4-10-1) tied the game with a goal in the first half and another a few minutes into the second period, but Ruhlen converted a pass from Josefina Enriquez into the go-ahead score with 28:22 left to play and the Rams held on.Carly Boes tallied three saves in goal for the Rams. Madison storms awayUPPER SANDUSKY — Joey Walker scored three goals and Randy Jamieson added two Saturday to key Mansfield Madison's 6-1 win against Upper Sandusky.Walker scored all three of his goals in the first half and Jamieson added one to put the visiting Rams up 4-0 at the break.Jonathan Craig cut the deficit to 4-1 for the home Rams with a goal off a pass from Dean Burton with 15:43 left in the second half, but Jamieson and Ashtyn Huffman each tallied a goal after that to help Madison pull away.Troy Hoffbauer tallied 10 saves for Upper Sandusky.
