Strong schools, stronger Tiffin Strong schools are the foundation of a strong community. When families or businesses consider where to invest, one of the first questions they ask is about the quality of local schools. Tiffin and Seneca County have earned national recognition for economic growth, but that momentum depends on the strength of our classrooms. Tiffin City Schools has not received new local operating dollars since 2013. Over the past two years, the district has spent about 15 percent less per student than the state average. Through attrition, the district saved $650,000 last year and will surpass $1 million this school year, while continuing to review contracts and control costs. Even with those efforts, expenses for technology, fuel, and staffing continue to rise. Without this levy, the district faces a recurring $3.5 million annual shortfall that would mean larger class sizes, fewer teachers, and reduced opportunities in academics, arts, and student services. The proposed 0.75 percent earned income tax is fair and focused. It applies only to wages and self-employment income, not retirement, Social Security, or investment income. At the median household income in Tiffin, the cost is about $34 a month. Every dollar stays local, protecting teachers, services, and the programs that prepare the next generation. A University of Toledo study found that every dollar invested in public education returns more than $5.60 to the local economy. This levy is not just about education.
