TU to host sports media conference

TIFFIN — Tiffin University will welcome international media personality and former Dutch speed skater Margriet de Schutter for two public events on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, as part of its 2025 Sports Media and Marketing Conference. De Schutter will present "The Secret Balance of Champions" on Nov. 5, an open discussion focused on mental health, life after elite sport and finding balance beyond competition. The following day, TU will host its annual Sports Media and Marketing Conference, themed "Shaping the Future of Sports Communication," from 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. in the Marion Center. The event will include four interactive sessions led by more than a dozen professionals in sports broadcasting, journalism, marketing and technology. Speakers will explore topics such as social media strategy, AI in marketing, athlete storytelling, NIL trends and broadcasting innovation. Opening the conference will be Bobb Vergiels, longtime press box announcer for the Detroit Tigers. Throughout the week, de Schutter will be joined by former Olympian Dr. Liston Bochette, who will serve as a visiting professor from Nov. 4–7, speaking with TU classes and athletic teams about leadership and global engagement. "The conference connects students directly with industry leaders and shows how academic knowledge translates into real-world impact," said Dr. Tom Marben, dean of TU's School of Business.
