Mayor honors Tiffin officer

TIFFIN — At the Tiffin City Council meeting on Monday, Mayor Lee Wilkinson honored Tiffin Police Officer Christofer Perry and recognized the Seneca Regional Chamber's Love Local campaign. Wilkinson recognized Perry for saving a man who appeared to be attempting to take his own life. The officer received a Life Saving award from Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly and recently received a Red Cross Hero Award. "Officer Perry's decisive actions and compassionate approach demonstrate the profound impact that dedicated law enforcement officers can have within our community, reflecting the very best that Tiffin Police Department and the city of Tiffin have to offer," he said. He then read a proclamation for the Love Local campaign, which encourages the public to support local businesses. "The Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce serves as a leading advocate and resource for local businesses fostering economic growth, collaboration and community pride throughout Seneca County," Wilkinson said. "The Chamber's Love Local campaign celebrates people, businesses and organizations that make Seneca County an exceptional place to live, work, shop and visit." He concluded the proclamation by encouraging people to support local businesses and other local establishments. Megan James, chamber manager, shared more about the Love Local campaign. "The campaign is not just to promote shopping and supporting local but also educating the public on why it is important to do so." James said. "Part of that reason is because when you spend money at a local establishment, a higher percentage of that is staying in our local economy." She shared that while the chamber emphasizes shopping locally and supporting businesses during the holiday season, it is an important thing to do all year round. In other business Council passed one ordinance, which amended the 2025 budget ordinance to appropriate funds into the parks and recreation fund. The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at City Hall, 51 E. Market St.
