Fostoria stabbing under investigation

FOSTORIA — A Fostoria man is in jail after police say they found him holding a knife at the scene of a stabbing Friday afternoon. Police identified the man as Stephen D. Biggs, 49, of Fostoria. Biggs was arrested, charged with felonious assault and is being held in the Hancock County Jail without bail. As of Sunday, he remained in custody, according to the Hancock County Sheriff's Office website. The victim, who had been stabbed multiple times in the neck and hands, was airlifted to a Toledo hospital for his injuries, according to a press release from Fostoria Police Chief Gabe Wedge. The police department did not release the victim's name. Chief Wedge said officers responded to a disturbance at 203 Independence Ave. around 4:57 p.m. "Upon officers' arrival, they found a male subject who had been stabbed several times... and a second male subject, standing nearby holding a knife," Wedge stated in the release. Authorities reported that officers "secured the subject with the knife and immediately rendered aid to the wounded subject." The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Crime Scene Unit was also called to the location to assist Fostoria police with processing the scene and collecting evidence, authorities shared. First responders from Fostoria Fire and EMS transported the victim to Fostoria ProMedica Hospital. Due to the "severity of his injuries," he was later flown to Toledo Hospital. At the time of the report, the victim was listed in stable condition. Chief Wedge stated that the investigation is ongoing and "additional charges are pending."
