Candlelight vigil planned for Tiffin victims

TIFFIN — As the community continues to grapple with the incident that claimed the lives of two young boys and two men on Wednesday, support efforts have quickly taken shape across the greater Tiffin community. Businesses, residents and even regional supporters have stepped in to provide donations, comfort and visible reminders that the family at the center of this loss is not grieving alone. A community candlelight vigil is planned for 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26 at the East Green Amphitheater, 155 E. Market St., Tiffin. Organizers are asking participants to bring only battery operated candles and glow sticks. Local salons collecting donations Additionally, Head Shed Hair Salon of Tiffin and Flora Salon & Spa have begun collecting financial support for the boys' mother, described by both businesses as a friend and colleague who has been left to face unthinkable loss. Head Shed is accepting drop-off donations during the following times: • Friday, Nov. 21: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. • Saturday, Nov. 22: 9 a.m. to noon • Monday through Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flora Salon & Spa is also collecting donations, and will additionally donate a portion of Saturday's open house sales to the family. Both locations have expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support already taking place. A verified GoFundMe created to assist the family with immediate needs has also been launched and is available online at www.gofund.me/5b1faefa4. TPD thanks community for support Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly shared the past several days have taken a visible toll on officers and the community alike, but the community response has been overwhelmingly positive in it's compassion and unity. "This has been a week none of us ever expected and one we will never forget," Pauly said. "When something this unimaginable and tragic happens here in Tiffin, it shakes not just the department, but our entire community. And yet, even in the hardest moments, this community did what it always does: it wrapped its arms around us and each other." He continued, sharing that the department has received hundreds of messages, calls, prayers and gestures of support, including meals delivered to the station. "The reason we are able to keep moving is because of the care and compassion that the community has shown not just to us, but to each other," he said. "This is who Tiffin is– When one of us hurts, we all come together."
