Fostoria Garden Club members learn from OSU extension educator

FOSTORIA — Amy Stone, an Ohio State University extension educator from Lucas County, presented the program "Plants and Pests ... Oh, My!" during the November meeting of the Fostoria Garden Club. Members learned about plant and pest problems and what may be done. They were also told about the invasion about the spotted lanternfly and what may be done to help stop the spread. Mary Peak presented Sue Gehring with the Outstanding Garden Club Member and Community Volunteer Award, and signup sheets were made available for becoming officers, decorating for Christmas at Kaubisch Memorial Public Library, horticultural reports, the Christmas party and a tour of Jac & Do's Pizza. Participants in the Halloween parade received thanks. Pat Coronado and Pat Brady showed ornaments for the library Christmas tree, and members voted to add the downtown Parkette to the rotation for mulch application. The club also voted to reduce the presentation of the Community Garden Award to once a year and to present it in July. The group also discussed suggestions for honorary members and how the club donates to recognize deceased members. The club's Christmas luncheon is scheduled for noon, Dec. 10 in Fostoria Junior/Senior High School's Legacy Hall. Attendees should enter through Door 1 at the school. New booklets for 2025 will be distributed.
